Who did you find in Gig Harbor with the Marans? I'm thinking I would like to hatch some marans, hehe. The only thing holding me back is not wanting to have them shipped, or drive too far to get them, but Gig Harbor would be local for me. Of course, I don't have an incubator, either - yet! haha

On another note: Imp and Illia - I think you guys have convinced me I need a peach tree!

hey I've lived in Bothell all my life. Grew up down the street from county village. Now I live just off the Woodinville/ Duvall Rd.

Eagle 2620 (mike) might have eggs. he raises chickens. he lives in Snohomish. he should be back on here tomorrow

I just spent the afternoon mowing etc and noticed the peach tree is starting to bloom. If I remember I'll take a pix when it is in full bloom and post it.

Oh please! I would love to see it! . . . And let's hope it doesn't freeze then.

About Marans and Gig Harbor - Are you city people THAT spoiled? I have to drive for nearly 4 hours to pick up my Marans and I don't have any shorter of a choice. . .

Anyway, I know two people around there. One is Lyn, who has nice birds and eggs, and another (around Seabeck actually) is Cree Farms. Definitely worth the long drive. They've been breeding and showing for a long time (stopped recently though) and have reaaally nice eggs. Never got to see their birds, but their website has a couple. Their Ameraucanas are drooling-gorgeous though. The eggs I don't know of - Saw a photo and they looked pale blue. But it was a bad photo. Guess I have 4 more months to find out.

Just chiming in, me and my hens are in Chehalis, eventually to be in Kalama.
I have nine black sex-links inherited from FIL. I think one has Frizzle blood...or else she puts her feathers on wrong side out every morning.
8 to 9 eggs straight through since last July, I'm very proud of them!

Imp, I agree - pictures, please!

Illia, it's not so much about being spoiled as it is a lack of gas money (I know, that sounds funny when I'm willing to shell out $$ for Marans eggs, huh? But I think we can all agree that chickens are more important than gas when it comes to "extra" cash.

) and if I were to make a drive somewhere, I'd have to rely the hubster because currently I can only manage very short local drives due to anxiety. He drives all day long for work, so it's kind of hard to convince him to go on a long drive on his days off, haha. I could probably talk him into driving to Seabeck, though, it's not that far. I sure do wish I were city-spoiled, though.

I don't think I qualify as "city people" as I don't actually live in Gig Harbor. I live on Key Peninsula, though I suppose I'm still closer to major shopping areas (not that I use them) than you.

Also, question about Ameraucana eggs. I was told recently that Ameraucana eggs are light to pale blue, and the brighter/darker blue you see in pictures is usually bad camera lighting. I'm guessing that this isn't true? Or possibly I'm just misunderstanding and he was just talking about the color he was currently working on (wheatens and blue wheatens, I think).

@Chotii - thank you for the link! I'm planning on building an incubator. I've found lots of helpful info here about building your own. Thanks for the warning about Instructables; if I decide to go check yours out I'll watch my back, hehe.

I have an ameraucana from Cree Farm. She is gorgeous! Her eggs are VERY pale blue. I was hoping they would darken a little, but sadly I don't think they will. But that's ok, at least she isn't feeloading anymore. Now all 5 are laying and I got 5 eggs today! Yay!

Does anyone have any extra numbered bandettes they would be willing to sell me? I only need a few in bantam and BIG bird size...anyone??

Do you still need these? I bought a box of 25 in size 9 and only needed one, so I've got plenty to spare in that size. From what I read online, bantams should take a size 7, we are showing a bantam cochin, so I hope this works on him! If you need some, let me know.
