You do know they're known for Rage Syndrome, yes? I've known two who had to be put down for biting people aggressively.
It does happen. I've heard of it happening. I've been friends with Golden Retriever owners all across the country for almost 15 years. When my previous Golden had to be put down at 15 years, I couldn't stand the void and began the search for a new puppy. I got a referral from a friend of mine in Ohio who raises Golden Retrievers, shows and is constantly working on raising quality dogs and champions in many fields, including therapy dogs. Our referral led us to a breeder in Bend, OR. We picked up Gryffin (Timberline "Can't Say No") when he was 8 weeks old. His breeder started sending us photos of the litter almost the day he was born, until we picked him up. He has a long, long, traceable pedigree, all of which I care little about, though it's nice to know where he came from. His ancestors can be traced back to the original Lord Tweedmouth dogs, (who developed the breed.) His grandsire, Pebwin's XPDNC, has taken Best of Breed on both coasts and in the UK, and Gryffin has had several relatives who were shown at Westminster.
Now my dog? Gryffin, Gryffindor, Gryffinator, whatever we choose to call him at the moment - Pet quality, really brilliant, pretty dog with a lazy, not so great owner. He sometimes makes mistakes - blame it on his owner who hasn't worked on that area of his training. Not registered - again, lazy owner who never sent in his paperwork.
We just wanted a healthy dog with good temperament history so I knew we'd have him for a while and he wouldn't go crazy on us. Still keeping our fingers crossed.
