I was thinking privett, is that in NM?

I was thinking some silkies, some sexlinks, some guineas, but I may just get them in monroe... depends on... lots of factors... including if I "accident;y" hatch out 30 chicks... or not. Where are you?

I'd take roo's if they are unwanted but no gaurenree on a forever home if I can't use it as a breeder.

Yep thats the place.
I am addicted to Silkies and Cochins I REALLY BAD want some Partridge Cochins!!
Make sure to keep calling that feed store to find out when they are coming, we called so much this year to make sure when they will be there and tried to get them to hold for us, by the time they came, the order was not what it was suposed to be. It was suposed to be black but there were alot of whites.
Anyway, I think next year a friend and I are going to go in on a order of 100 or so. She is really trying to get some good stock.
I am not to WOWOWOW about the pictures on Privett. 2 of my buff hens and my black silkies are not bearded I like them bearded. So I may part with them later when I get some that at bearded.

Oh and I am in Kent

hmm... maybe I want in on that! But... hard to say though as it depends on time and such. Only aiming for like 15 or so birds straight run so I can get a handful of girls... although I always want more!

Hi New Commers!

Glad to meet you. This is a really nice place to exchange information and meet new friends. We live in Ephrata and are new to country living. We moved here from a big city about a year ago and we are trying to learn everything we can about chickends before we get them. I can not wait until spring. Thats our goal to have a really nice chicken pen and run ready and know enough about chickens to raise them right. Right now we have been reading everything we can about keeping the chicken pen safe from out side pest.

I have always wanted chickens and I am almost there! A friend gave us some eggs to hatch. We followed all the instructions and were so excited but at the end we found out they were not fertilized and they did nothing. So we are back to our goal time frame of Spring.

Terras Critters - I would like to raise Bantam Cochin. I think they are so beautiful! Please keep me in mind if you want to sell any of yours. I will do my best to see that they have a really good home and some day die of old age.

Welcome to all of you!

Nice to meet you BirdGardenGal!
I can hatch you chicks anytime LOL
Right now I only have pure whites togther but if your happy with a mix of chickens I can get you any eggs from my birds, My silkies and Frizzles run together right now and hatch out anything from Silkie Cochin to a Cochin with a crest! They always turn out the cutest! IMO
I dont know my way around WA very well yet and I have been here maybe 10 years. Where is your town?
I have one friend who has bantam cochins as well, hopefully she will have eggs and chicks by spring for me too, I want to add more color to my flock.
Nice to meet you again and I am sure WE can full fill your goal! You just do the work of building the home. Hehe!
Take care!

ALRIGHT!
We went to the Co op in Everett, bought the 40# bag of "food grade de" Now who else has got this from them? Seriously? Anyone, Honestly? They told me the only size they sell is the 40# bag, so I split it with a friend. Drove all the way back to KENT and open the bag, what color is yours??? Well this bag is BROWN/BEIGE/TAN/BUFF WTH ever you want to call it LOL
WTH! Why is is brown, did you still use it?
The stuff I ordered online is PURE WHITE, this bag i got, it feels like its got little bits of sand in it.
I am getting mixed messages.

Yeah, I never bought it because 40 lbs was too much for me. I asked if it was food grade and they said it was. They even said they had one customer who feeds it to his goats? I just have been hesitating till I could split it. Doesn't sound quite right to me as I keep hearing it is white....

Haha I wouldnt advise putting it on yourself, when I bagged it up I wore gloves that crap drys my hands out!!

No it doesnt have a smell, It is food grade and they told me the same thing about feeding it to there animals.
DE is safe to feed to ANY animals.

This however, would be safe to feed in the summer months but not winter months, this is why.

This is a mixture of 65% DE <1% Silica and 35% Montmirillonite.

Montmirillonite is clay, our birds do not drink as much in the winter as they do in the summer, being that it is clay and eating it in the winter, it will eventually compact in there crops and not pass, where in the summer when they are drinking more, it has a better chance of being flushed out.

This however is still good to dust the birds with place in there nest boxes dusting boxes sprinkle on the floor around the water to keep things dryer and kill the bugs.
I used a 4lb bag today, doing just this, all over my pens. Just using it up.

I would never buy this bag again and will look at it more closely next time. I want it to be 99% DE and <1% Silica. Or close to that with a LOW Silica content.

We are on the look out for another source that is what we want! Lol

Read your ingrediants as questions if it is low silica, it needs to be low in silica it needs to be food grade. It should be white. Not Brown/Buff/ Beige/ wth ever they want to call this Lol

Thank you!

Oh and we have a Dels in Auburn I will call to see if they carry it, Reber Ranch doesnt....

Dels in Auburn says, sometimes they have it but not right now, sometimes in the spring... Blah

Hi TerrasCritters,

We live in Ephrata, WA it is just outside of Moses Lake. And about 43 miles from Wenatchee. We are just learning our way around also. Your chickens sound so cute. We are looking forward to buying some of your babies. Please keep us in mind and stay in touch. Thanks

I am new to the forum and on soggy (today) Whidbey Island. Whidbey is in Puget Sound opposite of Everett and north of Seattle. We have lots of predators here as I have unfortunately come to discover. Coyotes, eagles, raccoons and even otters. I have 5 hens of various breeds: Aeracouna (sp) RIR, Plymouth Rock and Dominique.
