Hi all.

I live on the northen border of Bothell, close to Mill creek.
We got a half acre of chemical free zone. lots of garden space, apple trees, rasberries and strawberries.

We have 23 rabbits, 13 Pekin ducks, 5 Rouens, 4 White Goldens, 25 Rhode Island pullets, and some adopted older girls who still manage to pop a few for us. The top dog is a nice Barred Rock who thinks he owns the place.

Just changed my order to 25 Black Broilers and 5 White Rock pullets in March. Other than that, it will be planting season soon.

My youngest daughter has taken on the animals and doing a great job at it. She gets up with me at 04:30 with me to feed before I go to work.

She just bought an incubator and is so eager to get chicken aggs she can hardly stand it. We are getting 3 chicken eggs a day and 7 duck eggs. But none fertile yet. Once we get the Rouens in a breeding environment, she should be incubating like crazy.

If I knew how to attach pics i would show you a few. Great site here.

pip's and peeps, sorry about your run desaster! That sucks.

I can't wait for growing season to begin! Awwww. Why is the weather so cool! I'll be starting the tomatoes in mid march indoors and probably doing first round of tilling then. I'm hoping this year, we don't have dang rats come by and literally walk down the corn rows eating up all the seeds!!!

Over here in North Eastern WA, north of Spokane, we have had a duck pen that just had wire for the top colapse, and a 'hoop house' made from 2 cattle pannels that were put into an 8'x8' wood frame colapse, the snow is about 3 feet, the dogs were walking right over the fence before we dug a trench. I am ready for it to go, but not too fast because we dont need flooding. How is the rest of the state?

okay

temporarily in YELM ! home to at least two big egg ranches ... but how about BYC members ? scanning the posts, looks like Eatonville is the closest ? Enumclaw ? Puyallup ? anyone closer ?

I'm checking to see if community covenants allow chickens (I don't think they do) since I have developed a bit of chicken-mania, also really like those fresh eggs ...

if I can't have them myself here, I'd love to find someone to visit or even to "chicken-sit" (or board) the EEs I'd like to have

outstanding !

I "think" I can sneak some baby chicks into our daylight basement, since we have more than an acre ... but outside as they grow older ? I don't think so ...

I'm planning to build an incubator along the lines of MissPrissy's, anyway, try my hand at hatching ... since I've now seen that even real live organic hens don't necessarily hatch 100% of theirs

now to find a source of eggs ... organic market, maybe ? I might also see if either of the egg farms ever sells their "surplus" stock

New from Shelton, WA. which is about 22 miles from W. Olympia, but we live 1/2 between the two towns. Have a variety of chickens as you can see from my signature. Was thinking today that maybe the next time my cochin goes broody I will have her hatch some more eggs. Spring is in the air...at least my tulips and daffodils think so.

Hi Everyone,

I hail from Port Orchard which is 30 miles north of Tacoma and or 15 miles from Seattle as the chicken
flies. When I was growing up my parents had
white Rocks and another breed that was red
but can't rember the breed for the life of me right now.
they laid beautiful brown eggs. I am now getting the urge to get back into farming. I reciently beacame a Dealer for Fertrell

see ya

Hi Everyone!

Welcome! It is nice to see all the people from WA area. This is a really nice site to share information and just meet new friends. I only wish WA would have more chicken shows! It seems there are more shows in other states, but it would really be nice to see more here! We were all ready to go to the one scheduled in Chehalis, at the same time the town had a flood show. The news showed all the neighbors working together to help each other. I think that was really wonderful. They really had a mess there.

check this whole"thread" -- seems to me there is someone up at Lake Tapps, probably the closest, also Puyallup, Enumclaw, several in Seattle

I checked Craigslist and there are a whole BUNCH of people selling eggs, chicks, hens, roosters, and whole flocks !

I've been having second thoughts about chickens, myself, because we do a little traveling in our retirement, and I doubt that I could depend upon family to care for them ... could be I go into "partnership" with someone nearby, supply chicks and feed, but let them do the daily caretaking

we'll see ...

(hubby says I can have all the chickens I want on Maui, so I'm checking around to see if it would be possibly to hand-carry fertile eggs onto the airplane .. with an eyeball inspection rather than X-ray; hoops to jump through, but I then could get EXACTLY what I want ---

also might be able to get some to Opihiman as well, since we often get to Kauai to visit family there too)
