Ok back to work for me, sun is trying to come out here....TRYING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess we really cannot complain about our weird weather...the rest of the country is cooking in triple digit heat, and no rain.
Talked to a friend in PA.......yes PA !!!
3 mo of 108 temps, well dried up, they are using water sparingly for selves & livestock from a few storage tanks, crops are left to die, and so far she has lost over 300 chickens to heat death between her & her parents.
And no end in sight.
I feel so bad for them....
Corn & soy and other crops are failing...and food prices and feed prices are going to skyrocket so bad !!!!!!!!!!!!

Y'know...we may gripe about our chilly, gray weather, but we really don't have much to complain about. We don't have hurricanes, tornadoes tend to be small and rare (compared to Oklahoma, anyway!), our "heat waves" usually max out at 85, our arctic blasts tend to be short-lived. Really, this is a very mild place to live. My prayers go out to those whose basements are flooding and whose crops are withering, and I'll offer prayers of thanksgiving for my little Eatonville home.

Well I went to a baby shower this morning and have been busy at home w/ the kids today. I feel like I got hit by a truck for some reason! Just need a nap I won't get...ugh. I can't wait to go to Justbugged's next Saturday to learn how to process birds. I keep thinking I need more roosters to bring with me! One doesn't seem worth the trip, but I'm sure it'll be interesting nonetheless.

We will be processing the rest of the birds hopefully next Saturday. If any one want to come and see how to butcher, you are more than welcome to stop by this coming Saturday. Even if DH doesn't make it home I think that I will do the deed one way or another.  

So, is that today, or next Saturday (7/28)?  And, are you processing in Enumclaw?  If so, I'll try to come to watch and learn.

It will be Saturday the 28th. We did most of our meat birds yesterday, with FlyRobin. But some of our meaties weren't really as big as I would prefer, so we are giving them another week. I am hoping that I can make the trip out to Raymond to pick up the plucker from ChickieLady on this coming Thursday. You are more than welcome to come and join us. I will PM you the address.

Yes I have some bantam roos that need to go of mixed breed.... they are small but good for learning the culling process. Little harder to clean if you have big hands but I like the size since it is perfect for small meals of 1 or 2 people.

I went to check on the broody and noticed the chick I thought would hatch was gone. I've had newly hatched chicks go missing before so I did a quick look around and didn't see it. Well I went back in and checked again and noticed the chick laying on its side with a wound to its head and was cold. But it was still alive.

I thought its neck might be broken because it was floppy so I brought it in a warmed it up. The good part is its doing much better but I think its to injured to put back with mom. I don't know what to put on it. And I can't get anything till tomorrow.


I also have 16 chicks that hatched yesturday. Is it to injured to put in with them?

WOW! I have never seen anything like that! I hope it is doing ok.

I would think the other chicks would pick at it.
