rrrr. wrote you guys a long message which disappeared when my network bobbled for a minute. ggrrrrrr
Glad to hear everyone is doing better. No more amputations or flock massacres you guys!
Fair report
Archer and Hope were so excited when their pips n peeps ameraucanas got blue ribbons. The white cockerel got BB and the Wheaten hen got RB. Jas's BLRW cockerels didn't get DQed for being marked as blue laced. That made me feel good though the non splash version was marked RB BV which I think is technically impossible. Perhaps someone has poor handwriting. It was scratched out a few times.
the Millies (2 cockerels and 3 pullets) did well but I'm not sure they had any competition. I didn't notice other feather footed bantams. one pullet got BB BV and the cockerel got RB RV. Jason wanted to know if they win money and I told him be grateful they got fed for 5 days.
The kids were just shining with joy that their babies did so well.
on flock health, we lost 3 adolescent chickens in a few days last week. After we got them on antibiotics (via water) they immediately seemed to rebound. We also lost two hens but I don't think it was the same cause. one just went missing and as for the other, well, there were a lot of feathers near where we let her roam.
on news of the wierd. my sisters neighbor in tacoma has 3 hens who've suddenly gone blind. no eye discharge, they cannot see enough to find food or jump up on the roost though they will eat if coaxed by pecking food under their beaks with a finger. anyone ever heard of this? it's half their flock and all one variety. their leghorns and astaulorp are fine.
