I feel your pain. . . . We're doing very poorly with our vegetable outcome as well. And to think, I planted over 100 onions. Guess how many are drying now? One! Darn weather. . . . .

As for the Yak poo thing, nah, I completely understand.

Off of 25 tomatoe plants I only got 4 tomatoes... All but one plant shrivled up and died weeks ago. The last one is starting to give up the goast, but has a buch of fruit just waiting to ripen. So it is now hanging in the garage to finish, with a padded trough under it to catch any that might fall.

Our tomatoes and wheat did poorly this year too. Our summer was horrible, cold and wet, so lots of crops suffered this year. Prices are going to be high for grains, fruits and vegetables!

I think it's going to be a very bad storm season this fall/winter.....

I was talking to WA4-HPoultryMom about that very thing::
I am going to go tomorrow and buy 8-10 bales of wheat straw for my runs that get so muddy...and the dog's yard...last year this time it was $6.99 a bale, and by December it was $12 a bale (for flippin' straw!) and by January it was $14 a bale, and alfalfa (2nd or 3rd cut, mostly stalks and shake leaf) was $12 so straw will pass alfalfa...I was so sorry for the farmers in the Grays Habor Valley...trying to bale and they had to keep turning and drying and turning...better stock up NOW on feed too.
The one thing doing extremely well is greens, mescluns and lettuces and arugula and of course, SLUGS!!!!

Just last week I bought a ton of hay for the horses, and I am already planning to order 2-3 more tons within the next month. Just have to finish cleaning out the old horse stall to fit the rest in. We are also stocking up on Oats, Beat Pulp, Chicken feed, and I gotta remember to grab a couple bags of chick starter too... I also need to figure out a system to thaw waters... I didn't even THINK about straw!

Winter prep sucks. lol But it needs to be done.

Yes I spoke with Illia, and although I can't drive that far either, maybe I will ask her to ship after I get a better incubator. Otherwise we plan on a trip next spring/summer to dig for fossils in Neah Bay, and may pick up from her then.

I used to live in Ellensburg, pan for gold, & hunt for Ellensburg Blues. If I had the barn finished I would be able to go! To many jobs that didn't get completed this summer, and it was a very short summer at that!

I agree Chickielady, our weather is totally confused!

Where do you live? If you can wait a while, I could possibly transport at least to the ferry terminal.

Oh and Illia! I figured out where to build the new coop! lol I'm gonna start working on it next week. Just trying to make sure its plenty big for a flock of six.

I make dill pickles out of the green tomatoes that get left on the vine.. but then I've got a very green (or is that red) tomatoe thumb and don't get very many left at end season.

Just let me know :}
I had to order online and the cost for shipping 10... $10! the cost for shipping 50... $8!?... so I ordered a bunch to pass on cost savings to any locals who wanted just a few.

Regarding tomatoes: I have made 3 batches of tomatoe sauce. I have not had as many ripe ones this year, but this year has not been very warm. You can take green-to-orange ones and they will ripen on your counter. Also, there is a recipe for green tomatoe preserves that I used to make.

Hi Everyone,
Elvis needs a new home. I have too many roos. I have uploaded pics of him but not sure if they will come up in here. He is a Buff Laced Polish and very
proud of himself. He will be 5 months old on Oct. 9th and is proudly crowing. I live in Lake Stevens, wa. and would love to find him a good home. It would be
nice to get $25. for him. If anyone knows someone who would like him pleast PM me and let me know.
Well it didn't work don't know how to get his pic on here. Sorry, but I will e-mail pics of him.
Thanks
Melody
