Does anybody in the Vancouver Washington area have Rhode Island Red chicks/pullets/hens they are selling/rehoming? I got RIR from McMurrary and I am disappointed in their coloring (not very red...) E-mail me!

organic chicken feed: depends on where you are, but i know that i used to get organic feed out at stroh's feed store in gig harbor. paying the STUPID toll makes it a bit more expensive, though!

Thanks! I get my hair cut & buy yarn in Gig Harbor....so I'll just add that to my list. I've been buying my feed in Burien so even with the toll I'm sure it will still be cheaper.

Thanks again.

My RIR pullet from Murray's has great color! She's a sweetheart, too. I was planning to sell her, but then I hatched out a Red Cochin Bantam rooster that is just stunning, and is the dearest little thing you'll ever meet. I'm going to cross them in the fall, or early next spring. If you're interested in eggs or chicks from these two drop me an email and I'll put you on my contact list.

Just picked up a Black Copper rooster, "yesterday" and a dozen + two extra eggs from Creefarms in Seabeck. Wade Jeane Lines and their very nice looking.
I just want to thank Lisa for meeting with me.
Thank you, Lisa
I really have takin' a shine to my new roo, and I think that my Black Copper hen has too.
I'll let you know how the hatch goes.
Oh, and I drove right onto the ferry when I got to Kingston and was home by 7:00
Keep in touch.

That's not too far away.

I've got a random question...how much time do your chickens stay outside during the winter? I'm in the process of designing a coop, and I'm wondering how much time they will actually spend in it next winter.

Welcome Finley! My birds tend to spend most of the day outside everyeday. The exception being when the snow was too deep this winter for them to get out the pop door! I don't think it gets "too cold" for them over here in Western WA.
