I haven't had any eggs yet as my oldest birds are only 7 weeks old. Do I need to wash them? I have heard both don't wash and do wash. What do you all do?

I only wash if they're excessively dirty or have poo on them, or I'll usually wash the ones I'm selling unless they're spotless, but I don't wash them till the day I sell them.

Ditto for me...

Nyrial why do you wait to wash the day you sell? Oh and I just asked my hubby if he would go with me to a BBQ and he said yes! I'm local so wont stay over.

Fridge space! (I lack it) and, I reason that the longer the bloom stays on before the egg is cracked and cooked, the less chance the bacteria has to get into the egg, right?
(At least let me think it helps. )

Nyrial you are brilliant!! It would be a blast to have a big ol BYC party!! I would love to put faces to everyone!! And would love to hear a bit more of "the wild ride" story!! LOL! I'm sure the more adult beverages that are enjoyed the better the story will be!! '

they are going to send me an information packet.

i do not think one needs a commercial kitchen.

i know that if we wanted to make jams, or food from our fruit we would need a commercial kitchen....

my mom once tried to get a special rule where home kitchens could be certified for commercial use... it didn't have enough support at the time...

but to make cider it would have to be pasturized or the new thing is ultra violet. but yeah once i know more i will let you guys know...

i know that we have to buy egg seals to put on the cartons. but we can cross out the word "graded" and sell them as is "farm fresh"

and here i was worried it would be as much of a hassle as they make it sound on the doa site... but that is for 3,000 birds or more...

I am very very interested in this, and the cheese making and honey bottling and other crafts we have~

Nyrial maybe your right that sounds good and makes sense.

T Hi don't we all need rich men so we can stay home and watch the babies

the only reason I get to stay home is because the money I would make would go straight to daycare (so no point) and my DH makes WAY more than me.

The same here. I would rather work, and make a reasonable wage, than stay home all the time. I love the critters and all, but it's not what it is cracked up to be when you know that you aren't worth a basic wage. My DH makes so much more than I can. I wish it was different because he is a much better housewife, and critter caretaker than I am. I so remember the days when I couldn't make enough to pay the sitter. Dang I still can't.
