Oh I'm SO MAD!!!
And I know its my fault...
Was woke up at 5AM by my hens squaking up a storm. Looked out my window, and a coyote is in my pasture chasing my chickens, while being chased by my daughters pony. The girls didnt get locked up last night.
The coyotes got one of my White Wyandottes. Two days ago I lost my Banty Delaware "looking" cross.
"Not sure what got her. But now im thinking it was a coyote."
My girls are getting an updated coop, with their run wrapt in hot wire. I'm thinking about putting the wire just below my knee, or should I go lower? I would also like to get a rifle, but I think my neighbors are too close for me to keep one and be able to use it.
I cant believe how BIG this Coyote was. It was bigger than my Sheppard / Chow mix! He was about the same size as my moms Sheppard / wolf hybrid!!! Probably 60 - 90 pounds, and if it was standing next to me, its head would have come up to my thigh! And I'm 5'11"!!!
I know it was my fault... I know the coyote is just doing what a coyote does. But Darnit!!! I am now down to 3 adult layers, and 3 four week old pullets...
Now I need to fix the problem. Rebuild the coop, make it as close to fortknox as possible, run hotwire along the outside of the run. And make sure the girls are LOCKED IN every night... Then start the search for more mature layers... In two years, "up until now" I have only lost 1 bird from predators... And now I have lost two in one week...
I want to scream, cry, and camp out in my chicken coop all at the same time. My poor sweet girls...
On the other hand I do SO love my daughters Welsh Pony. What a good and brave little boy! By the time I had made it outside, he had the coyote on the run. Running circles trying to not get kicked that is...
Good boy Teagan! He's an awsome worthless pony! And I wouldnt trade him for the world!
I call him our worthless pony because he is usually only good for eating, making messes, and tearing down my fences. Oh that and he is untrained...
