What a day...... Went down to feed all my critters and both my NZ does were GONE! Went to the coop to let the girls out for the day and boy did it stink! Guess the rain had gotten it a little too wet in there....so I spent the morning mucking it out. Have to let it dry out before I can even repair where the water was coming in at! To top that off I had a hawk circling a few hours later....well, my netting isn't up yet, tried to do it by myself but was seriously unsuccesful! So, I asked Bf to help me and he said "you can do it just fine on your own" enter "argument". So I am still trying to figure out how to get this netting up by myself.

Then my luck began to change or so I thought! One of the does walked right up to me as I was giving up for the day....laid down at my feet and let me pick her up and snuggle her! She has NEVER even let me pet her.

Then the other doe comes out and acts like shes going to let me pick her up and put her back as well..... WRONG! She darts off just as I go to grab her and the race begins! I finally get her cornered and make the dumb move of standing with my feet apart and she runs right through them and off into the woods! About 2 hours late BF comes down to help me look for the hawk in the sky and there is the doe again.....we chase her and get her cornered and what happens? Bf is standing with his feet apart and there she goes right through them and back off into the woods! Getting ready to put something yummy in my coon trap to HOPEFULLY catch my doe....who just happens to be pregnant! lol

as I said "what a day!"

For the Lemon Blues, I normally charge $35 + $13.55 for shipping...but I have an auction going right now on here and the bidding is only at $25

As for the Orloffs, I don't have any eggs for sale right now as I'm rebuilding my flock--BUT, I do have 5 Orloff chicks that need a new home.

Your birds are beautiful! But I really dont have room for a dozen chicks to hatch. lol Thanks for the offer. I have been watching your auction, and wish I had more space, but I'm limited on what I am allowed to bring in now. lol My husband says no more than three eggs.

I only sell them in 1/2 dozen. I could always sell them by the egg, too.

I also hatch chicks.

Seriously ?
You have to get a permit ?
How much is the govt ripping you off for the permit ?????
Geeeze, a chicken permit !
Do they know, like come check to make sure you do not have more than you declare ?
Chicken gestapo......
I am hoping those tiny beetles do not invade us again !
Back to work.
I have never heard of a chicken permit.
Next they will make you have all vaccines and license each bird like they do with dogs.
Little collars...lol

Wish the govt did that with cats.

Out of the mouth of babes: My daughter is 9 years-old. Yesterday she asks what we are going to do when the chickens start flying. I tell her: They already flying, across the pen, across the yard. We have a top on the pen so when we want them in the pen they cannot get out....She tells me: No, when they start to REALLY fly. I finally realize what she means. I had to explain to her that Chickens do not fly South for the winter...I explained that chickens are like quail (which we have hundreds around) they prefer running/walking to flying. How cute is that? Yep, I can see my fat BR girls all headed toward South America for the winter.

On another note: wish chickens ate mosquitos...they are starting to come out here.

clarification to my early post..... I do not actually "shoot" hawks..... I simply take a UNLOADED pellet gun near where I find them and fire it, again it is unloaded, it makes a loud bang but that is it, no actual damage but the hawk s usually leave because of the noise. I would never actually hurt one, even though it took my Fav chicken.... I simply make the noise to attempt to protect my other chickens.
