Nah they were in a flight pen, I contemplated a "coop" type enclosure for them but was told "good luck" because they are nearly impossible to convince to go into a shelter. I am obviously re thinking that idea

so notice the wire on the ground, folded and doubled over will get grass over it eventually, and nothing can dig under the fence.
The wire on the top is cut strips of 2x4 welded wire.
I just sit in a lawnchair and cut strips, then attach with small wire ties and poultry net staples.
The note here is that you have large sharp wire cutters and cut the wire at as slanted an angle as you can, so the resulting cut is very sharp, not blunt.
I then go along and point the sharp ends in different directions so any critter climbing the posts will get nailed on his way up, and all along the top to discourage any other critters !
Good luck !
Greg also had alot of computer discs and other glittery stuff to scare off intruders too.
Guess I should also explain that the fence with flight netting on top, and green plastic netting around the bottom is the baby pen, and the other big pen just has the cut wire around the top.
Get a big trap Jess ! They had fun and food at your house they will surely return !!

Record Breaking Heat - Again!
Wednesday's high was 25 degrees warmer than Monday's hitting 90 degrees - breaking the old record of 88 set in 1953.

Temperatures will continue to warm today picking up another 2-4 degrees - definitely shattering the old record of 87 for July 8th.

The thermal low pressure that has been along the coast will begin to broaden and drift eastward today moving over Puget Sound this afternoon pushing temperatures into the mid 80s to mid 90s with some upper 90s near the Cascade foothills. As the low moves inland the marine air is already moving into the coast bringing clouds and fog and cooling temperatures to the south Coast.

The low will continue its eastward movement Friday moving east of the Cascades turning winds onshore during the day. This will bring more clouds into the coastal beaches Friday morning and drop beach temperatures into the 60s. Over the interior it will cool 4 or 5 degrees

As the onshore winds pick up over the weekend, we will see some patchy fog in the morning around Puget Sound otherwise sunny and cooler but still warm with highs int he mid 70s to mid 80s.

A weather system moving through BC will further increase our onshore winds next week for more morning clouds and maybe even some morning drizzle Wednesday dropping highs back into the low to mid 70s through the week.

I am giving it a try!!! I have a LG trap..... problem is the critters are trap shy!!! someone else musta had an issue with them too! Department of fish and wildlife said to kill the raccoons if the get in the trap, or if I can shoot them outright!

they said that if a raccoon is trapped and let go it won't go in a trap again (trap shy). It is actually ILLEGAL to trap and release a raccoon in Washington state, that is why WDFW told me to kill it. I am at a loss..... Do I illegally make them someone else's problem if I catch and release or do I do as the law requires? HOPEFULLY having my dog down there prevents any more incidents! Plus I am going to do the spikes!

Thank you once again for your advice!

We had one in the backyard and Jon did as the law requires. Problem was, it fell into the bushes and since it was dark, he couldn't find it! He tried looking for it with a flash light that night but wasn't going to actually go into the bushes not knowing what its condition was. He tried looking the next day too and couldn't find it (very overgrown salmonberry bushes). Our 6 year old found it! She was playing and for some reason decided to poke the bushes with her stick, which moved them just enough for her short little self to see the raccoons tail. She got me and when Jon got home he took care of it. It looked liked it was grinning at us!

One down, a bazillion more to go but at least that one didn't get my girls!

We had a splash cochin roo who looked similar (and we were pretty sure from the day we brought him home that he was all boy). Boy did Napoleon have attitude.

Well, I am going to push forward.... tomorrow (on the hottest day yet!) I plan to put chicken wire in every conceivable place to prevent any further loss of life! I can't give up, I love my critters too dang much!

If it makes you feel any better to have company, we've got a similar day ahead of us here. Our problem though is with the eagles though so we'll be putting framing and netting. I'm hoping my husbands son is as willing to help me a few hours into the job as he was last night. Fortunately it's a shadier part of the yard than some places.
