Yes I have someone taking very good care of my feathered babies and my four legged babies too! There is a shade board over the top of the run. They have a 30ish gallon pool in their run and a wading pool in the yard when they are let out. I have a sump pump to clean out the pool in the run every 2 days or sooner if needed! It only takes about 5-10 minutes to drain and refill. Plus we have a ice maker so they get a bucket of ice in it too if they need it! Spoiled little snots!

OK, tell me if anyone knows of anyone selling true Rhode Island Whites, big boned heavy LF with Pure White Plumage, yellow skin, pea comb.
They almost look like a pure white light brahma~

Free mealworms, darkling beetles (Everett)

I purchased a container of mealworms at Petco for my daughter's gecko, but the picky little guy wouldn't eat them. So I put four worms in a cricket keeper so my 6 year old could watch the complete metamorphosis into darkling beetles. I planned on just letting them live out their normal life cycle and when they died we would be done with the whole project. Well, now I have a whole bunch of mealworms that are starting to pupate because my original four evidently got busy and laid eggs. I just can't bring myself to release them into the yard since I don't know if they are considered invasive or not and I see no point in wasting them by flushing them down the toilet. If you have an animal that eats these or want to be adventurous and eat them yourself, please contact me and we can arrange for you to pick them up. They also make a great science project for young kids. Thanks for taking the time to read!

man, it's been HOT out there. So far, my chooks are faring it well, though. I've put a tarp over their run to add more shade and making sure they have lots of cold water. I've been freezing gallon jugs of water over night so they can have these frozen bottles around to lay next to and to put in the bins where I've put water for them to put their feet in. I'm thinking of bringing the plastic sandbox over there and filling it with a couple inches of water so they can dip their feet in there tomorrow.

The patio deck is 14 feet wide, and it must be just over 20 feet long. Then the concrete continues around the side of the house that is used mostly as a utility area, That side of the house has the the shed, greenhouse, and chicken coop in it. We also use the area to hang laundry, and the picnic table that we use to process the meat birds. It is so nice to not have to deal with gravel anymore. I am looking forward to maybe having cleaner floors soon.

Is anyone going to the Seattle Tilth coop tour tomorrow? We won't be able to make it but are interested in how people have their backyard set up. I guess 13 of the 29 are in the North Seattle area!

It was funny on the news tonight a backyard farmer said something like, "chickens were so 2009; bees are in for 2010." Lol!
