Well while finishing cleaning up the burned barn at my feed supplier today Becky told me there is another local guy who is willing to take care of her customers and that IF she gets started again he will send em back. Thats great news to me as I was dreding having to buy that nasty store bought chicken food.
I was able to hire a friend to help me with the clean up and we did a 3 way split of the money we got for the scrap metal 1/3 to him 1/3 to me and 1/3 to Becky to try to help her with her loss. She was very shocked today when I gave her the money and told her what we did, I know it meant a lot to her as I could see it in the tears in her eyes.
I get such a great feeling when I am able to do things like that for others.

Ok so here is a better picture!

The one on the left is a extra large chicken egg. The one on the right is from my baby!!!!! I love the color!!!!!!!

Here in Kansas its that time of the year again when my eyes water, the roof of my mouth and my head itches, my nose runs and I can't stop sneezing. All I can do is take drugs and wait until the first hard freeze.

Do any of you Washingtonians have allergies (Hay Fever) or know someone that does? What are the pollens that causes your allergies? Will I suffer when we move?

Thanks again
Micahel

I get hay fever in late June. It's mostly grass pollen. I don't really have much of allergies this time of year. There are lots of trees so if you have a problem with tree pollen, springtime might be bad...

You might want to consider covering to keep the rain off also. It is well documented that our Northwest rains leach nutrients from the soil as well as compost. Before I covered my piles to keep the rain off I could see dark brown water (compost tea)running off from underneath the pile right out to the creek bed. Thats wasted nutrients. Also, I heat compost and most of the piles I work on all summer and fall are finished by winter but some that need more time will cease to compost if I don't cover them because they are too wet. But, everyone has a system that works for them and if your compost grows great vegetables then its obviously working. Isn't it great what we do! We have ecofriendly sustainable farms.

I remember as a kid wearing my new wool sweaters and skirts to school in September, and the temperature being 80 degrees every year (in those days, one didn't wear summer clothes after Labor Day). Summer isn't over yet.
