Okay, my fellow Washintonians, I need some help/advice.

I have a hen, that this morning is holding one eye shut and either that side of her craw (sp) is full or she is holding her neck off to the side a bit. I see no scratches, blood, or injury. I am assuming that she may have got her eye poked or scratched. She did come out of the pen, but eventually went back into the pen while everyone else is out. She acting like she is sleeping. I am keeping a close eye on her, but any advise? Any suggestions? What should I be looking for? We have found a large hive of yellow jackets that are inside the outer wall of their hen house and I am still working on extracting this, could she have gotten stung? I don't see swelling around her eye. Please help.

My bet is she did get stung and the swelling is hard to see.
I've had stings before that didn't swell of course most did.
I would imagine on that small an animal it would really effect her. I'd just wait it out myself and see if she gets better.
Should happen in the next few hours if a sting I would think.

Ok I have kinda a request for you all. But I have to explain first...

My sisters dog got out yesterday, and was picked up by a woman who is suspected of running a "pet theft ring" in my area...

What this woman is suposedly doing, is taking pure breed dogs, & transporting them to other parts of the state, then selling them...

So, I was wondering if you all would keep your eyes out for a Black and Tan, Mini Dachshund on CL. Just in the off chance that this is where he ended up.

This is extremely frustrating, and heart breaking for my sisters family.

HE WAS FOUND!!! A lady from forks picked him up and left him with a local gas station worker! OH I'm so glad he wasn't stolen. Thanks guys!

On the bird posted above, the first thing I do anytime I see something "off" with any of our birds is seperate her from the flock, just in case whatever she has may be contagious. Then just watch, wait, and research if any new symptoms show up.

Heather, I can't commit yet to the swap, but if we are free that day, I will try and make it!

Guess what we got today???? We put money down on 4, yes 4, pygmy goats!!!!!

We are all so excited! We've been wanting them since my oldest DD started 4-H 6 yrs ago. We finally got hooked up with a friend knowing a friend knowing a friend. We also found a 4-H group doing pygmy's so my oldest is going to add that project starting in October. Our club didn't offer it, so that's been part of the trouble, finding someone who know's someone so we can learn from someone who know's what they are doing. My camera battery died, but I will get pic's tomorrow when we go back to fair. 3 are babies and one is one of the mama's, so all girls. DH is off ordering a shed for them to live in. We'll bring them home as soon as the shed's up. The girls.......well, all of us actually, are so excited!!!!

People who do this should be strung up by the toenails! When I was a kid 2 of my dogs was "picked up" and vanished.
I hope your sister finds the pup.

Check out http://craiglook.com

It searches all craiglist cities/states
Also might want to create a lost/stolen dog post and post in all cities on craigslist starting with those close by then farther out.

and good luck!

I wish I had known you were looking for pygmy goats! I have 2 that I've been looking for a home for.. problem I have is that they are meat goats and most want them for the BBQ not as a pet. Any questions let me know and I'll do my best. Oh and if you don't want them to have horns make sure who your getting them from dehorns them now. Its a lot harder when they get older.

Yes they are dehorned already, so glad that is done! I didn't realize people used them for meat! That's AWFUL!!! I thought they were mostly just pets!!!!

Thanks for the offer to answer questions. I'm sure I will have many once they come home.

We're going to be at the Evergreen State Fair tomorrow from roughly 10:30 (its quite a drive for us, so I'm hoping we'll make decent time) to at least after 2pm. Anyone else going that would like to meet up and say hi?

I'm bringing a couple of cages, just in case folks were thinking to sell some chickens!

And I'm planning to attend our swap, as well. So put us down
