We've got SNOWW!!!!!

It's the tiniest amount ever, not even a blanket yet, on the ground - But there's snow falling. I'm pretty sure it will stop pretty soon though, because this cloud is about to leave and just leave us in a high pressure freezing point. AKA - clear nights, frozen days.

Scott actually has feed for most farm critters. It is locally produced and they grow most of it themselves. AND THEN THERE IS THE PRICE !!! My chickens love the feed, less waste and better production. I think if you could get in on the shipments coming that way you would like it.
I am REALLY starting to wonder if I made a big mistake letting my little secret out. lol

Yes, I am wondering the same thing, like since he is MrPopularity now he may raise the prices ?
Hope not !!

Yikes!! Sounds like you have the pen pretty secure, though... What breed is Cash?

He's 1/2 Anatolian, 1/2 Border Collie, close to 100lbs. I love to brag on him...it's sad that he's already almost 6 years old...and slowing down...

Terrie has duckies, ask her ?
I use straw, but after a while it can get really yucky and you have to remove it and add new just like in a stable.
It is awfully fun for the chickens, though, they love the seeds and things they find, rotovating through the straw is their favorite thing !

I have a question for all, actually 2 questions:
#1...Is anyone here going to butcher and have a home grown turkey for their dinner (or goose, or duck) and if so what breed is it ?
I want Cayuga next spring for meat and eggs...maybe that will materialize.
Question #2...I have read repeatedly that Guineas (called game birds in restuarants) are awesome all dark meat birds with more than a chicken but less than a turkey in size...has anyone prepared and eaten these birds ?

We use local grass hay rather than straw. There a number of reasons and one of the big ones is that the chickens will actually turn it into powdered fluff a lot faster than they can with straw. This makes for better compost.

No...we neutered him in 2006.

I got him from someone in Moses Lake/Ephrata area (Little Nickel ad) for $75. That was in 2005. The BEST $75 we ever spent...since having him, we have not lost a single chicken/duck/goose to any predator (except for a mishap when I took him to town with me ONCE) and a neighbor's pointer came over and killed all of my birds...but that was my fault for leaving them unattended and out while I was gone.

I've been searching the Little Nickel and CL for the last 5 years for relatives of his, the same people we got him from, etc...and no luck. I would love to buy another one like him. I mean...here is the night & the next day after we bought him...he was ssooo stinkin' cute!
