Is it just me or has anybody else wondered....... just how many thousands of tax dollars is it costing us to have 2 turkeys "pardoned".

Well here is my backyard. View out the backdoor. Note the huge willow tree and then beyond this is the hen house and rabbit pen. The coop has been made from the kids' old playhouse.

In this one, here is my run/coop. You can see some of the poor girls outside in the run trying to have a normal chicken life, even though it is cold. The other pen is for my rabbit. The black tarp is over the top of the pen to keep the wind off. Yes, there is a fence around the rabbit pen, that way I can let the rabbit out.

Here shows you how many limbs blew out of the tree onto my backyard. All that covering the snow...that is limbs. The wind blew hard.

We don't have much snow. Just very cold.

those are freaky.

You watch, Illia will love them, and don't you think they need little clothes ?
Trousers, a sweater ?
You could dress them every morning...

I just got home about 1/2 hour ago.
When we left 3 hrs ago to go to Chehalis, the streets and highway were slick and hard with ice and several inches of snow..and we met Rare Feathers and got the birds

Oh my...Clarence IS a spectacular bird!!!!!!!!!!
I picked him up and he is like carrying a 18 pound featherd turkey...what a gorgeous bird!!
And Abigail and Mildred !!!

So we turned around and drove home, and Heather went on to Portland, it was fast, and freezing and dark...
And going 30 miles an hour at best like on the way to Chehalis, we were going 30 back to the coast, and suddenly we noticed all the ice was gone...not only gone but no wetness on the road, it was bare and dry.
As we got home we noticed our driveway was slush, melting fast.
YIPPEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What was that guy thinking?

Funny he said he felt the lives of these chickens would be better without feathers...like so they won't get mites !
But what about the wind, the cold, and dignity and the splender of plumage to attract a mate ?
Weirdo, I thought it would be OK for factory meat birds...but this is a laying breed !
Ugly...

There is a BYC member named Danischi(lives in Israel), who has a featherless chicken. She posted about it a few weeks ago and started a bit of a dust up. They are exploiting a genetic defect in order to breed chickens that are more hardy in hot climates. For people in poor 3rd world countries.
I think they are kinda ugly, but that's just me.

Russ

Hotter climes aside...what about ultraviolet radiation ?
So they have to spray their chickens with sunblock every day ?
Seriously!
Even the humans where veils and caftans to shade themselves from the unrelenting scorch of the sun over there !
