Ah, finally someone else who thinks this! I didn't want to say anything because I didn't want to ruffle any feathers. . . But, yeah, I would choose real sugar any day over artificial sweeteners. In fact it is MORE harmful to drink or eat "diet" things than fattening, sugary things.

I also did a thesis paper before on artificial sweeteners.

Artificial sweeteners are very bad indeed...but we use Splenda for dad to have a treat (he is diebetic and the Splenda does not set off his diabetis)
We do not do Aspartame or any of the other phoney stuff...I am happy Dad gets to have a treat every so often, and he is very very careful with his bloodsugar, checking often and he is really good about staying away from sugars.

Ya' know what is funny....for anyone else she would not be doing this (talking from experiencce)...You are special...You are Mom...You get all the "special" behavior.

Sorry, I am laughing with you...breath...laugh. Tomorrow she will be 16 and wanting to borrow the keys to the car and the day after that she will be going to college. (hypothetically of course). It is easy to stand on this side of the computer and say that and it is harder to be right there with a 2 yo or 3 yo or 9 yo, etc....right there having a tempertantrum.

I can sympathize. If you were closer, I would tell you to send her over...she could play with the 9 yo. You can do it. Really sounds like you need a break. Leave her with DH and go get a coffee?

Rustler & Illia,

Won't ruffle my feathers if you have real info on Splenda, but I work as a health care nutritionist/manager and I'm a tough test to pass. I am diabetic as well, and find Truvia barely acceptable. The RDs I work with say Splenda is safe. I won't touch Saccharin or Aspartame. Before I was diagnosed I thought sweeteners were a lot of "who shot john" just a waste of talk, but I really like my sweet coffee in the morning.

Are these BRs? Sorry, I don't know if there are other breeds that look BRs...I am not great at the breeds. We love BRs and the Cochins (which I know there are many). If you have young ones of these in the spring, we would love to get (preferably females) next spring. Pretty boys.

Big difference in suagrs and carbs, sugars (especially processed white) raises the blood sugar almost instantly, sending a sky high spkie in most diabetics, very bad....and carbs, like rice or bread for example (or gravy!!!

) can raise the blood sugar slowly over a longer period of time and thereby sneak up on you...neither is good, for anyone.
Splenda, made from sugar, does not spike blood sugar levels instantly or over a longer period like Carbs, and Stevia is yucky in coffee

I a bit green with envy. I looked into the surgery, but sadly my insurance won't pay for it. I can't quite bring myself to owe 25,000 for the privilege of being thin again. I don't mind not eating, but even that doesn't seem to take any weight off. The insurance would rather pay for all the health related problems of to much overweight, than for a guarantee of success.

Well, keep your eye on your plan and keep checking on it because more and more, the insurance companies are covering the lap band. It really is dumb of the insurance companies not to pay for it, especially since it will cure many cases of diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, etc. and they don't have to pay for the upkeep of those health issues. but yeah, I wouldn't have paid for it myself out of pocket either. It's just too expensive for the regular person to pay for...

The insurance companies want the money long term, lap band is short term.
