The bator came with cardboard trays that I am useing and I havn't ordered the plastic ones yet. I probably will before the spring as they hold more eggs than the cardboard. The cardboard holds 30 eggs and they look like the typical egg flat from the store. I think the chicken size plastic you can order holds around 40. Not sure what color they are. Each shelf holds 2 trays.

I so the pictures of the R I Red Bantams. Are those from Jim Volk from Onalaska? He goes to the Calif shows. I was talking to him last night in the parking lot at Wall Mart after work we where in a Tornado warning with in two to four miles of this store. Wind blowing and raining like crazy. Got home turned on the TV and so the radar bigest cold front I ever saw come through her since I moved down hear. It will be interesting when and where this storm ends up as it moves east in the next week.

My son told me he experienced a weird thing. In less than 24 hours he saw the weather change 100 degrees. He was in picking up a load with his truck in North Dakota and drove to Abilene Texas to deleiver it and it was 85 degrees. When he left North Dakota it was 15 below zero that moarning.

I saw it lighting in Wisconsin about 25 years ago in a snow strom. Hard to think such a event would happen,

I came up with a idea yesterday to ship hatching eggs. I have these single nest shiping boxes which will hold two bantams they cost about $10. On the bottom of the box I am going to place about three inches of Saw dust then put 18 Rhode Island Red Eggs in the egg carton padded with clean ex and then stuffed with fine saw dust then wrapped in four inches of bubble wrap, then three more inches of saw dust on top of that then I am going to make a floor out of thin plywood to sit on the saw dust then place a Rhode Island Red Cockerel or Cock bird in the box and ship them to the person who wants the bantams. Then they can hatch the eggs and mate the best females to the cock bird the next year. I have to many males and not enough females to ship pairs this year. This way the eggs will be shipped the best way possable and be placed in the live section of the Fed Ex jet plane.

I have orders for about four dozen eggs but I hate to ship them two day prioty mail. I think this will be the best way to get started with a new strain of bantams for a beginner.

Those pictures of the fire where scarey. The black and white dog is a dead ringer for my dog I had as a kid. He was a excellent Phesant dog we killed more Ringnecks a year than you can think of. I have been thinking of geting some and some chuckars and raise them down here.

Will watch the thread to see how the flooding goes. bob

Illia, if I ever meet you in person, I owe you some peas! Er, I mean, a treat, a present or a delicious meal or something. Yes indeed, it is a tailless whip scorpion or tailless whip spider or whatever they are called. In science we call em amblypygids. A whip scorpion is something different, and is also called a vinegaroon, which is uropygid in science-eze. I am super surprised you know what an amblypygid (ambly for short, or if they are from Panama where I did some work with them, panamambly, or amblypambly) is! They are so obscure that if people know about them at all usually they think they are some deadly mythical creature from Harry Potter. Delightful and completely harmless in real life- real sweethearts.
I wuv moths too. Do you have any great ones?

Hope that everyone keeps dry enough this weekend!

My whole collection (plus a couple chickens and etc) is on my Flickr Account

The best I got was a black Noctuid that I have yet to see again, and NOONE has ever identified. Even our top Noctuid expert for the PNW hasn't got a clue.

I miss that little fella. . . Kinda worried I won't catch it again either.

i posted a bunch of pictures from Leavenworth yesterday. It snowed about 10 inches at least while we were there. The passes where very 'exciting' ..

ALSO: LOCAL GOAT PEOPLE!

I have the worlds biggest spool sitting in my yard that my really good thoughtful friend brought over for me.. it is much too big for my Nigies and their yard. Anyone with a large enough pasture and full size goats.. this would be HEAVEN for them.. it is just too big for us. Free free free and you MUST have a full size truck to get it. It is large. If you don't have goats and you want this anyway for some project ... that would be fine too.

I thought I would ask here before putting it on CL .
