You think am OLD man like me would LEARN from past experiences

BUT I guess I haven't

About two years ago before I knew we had coyotes around, I let my flock which were three months old then out to free range. About two hours later I looked out the window and saw a coyote heading for them. by the time I got out there he was running off with a second one. Then last year I was out watching them roam just before dark and thought I would run in the house and check my e-mail before I locked them up

. when I went back outside there were white feathers everywhere and my best laying leghorn was missing.

Last Wednesday at 1:00 pm I saw TWO coyotes walking through the pasture. So on Friday I let them out to roam and thougth I will see a coyote if it comes and I can scare it away

WRONG one came out of the woods and grabbed one of my delawares and took off. I went running after it screaming at the top of my lungs. Like that was going to stop him

Then today one of my leghorns who hasn't laid an egg since last May, died

. she was a funny looking old girl . her comb hung way down over her left eye and she was afraid of her own shadow.

But to look on the BRIGHT side of this means I have to BUY MORE chicks

I got this water based ivermect as you can do drops on a bread cube, and the bird eats it. 10 days later, do it again.
I am getting eggs off and on, and figured now is the time to worm and then the flocks will be super healthy and ready to face a laying season.
So, they are wazine now.
I do wazine 2 X a year but have not done anything else but DE dusted feed.
So far, we are not getting a major amount of eggs so I don't really care about not eating them.
I would love to know if the eggs can be hatched though, or will I get freaks ?
I would not hatch the first week's eggs after ivermect, but the second week's , just before the second dose recommended at day 10.
I will look at the other stuff next time, and rotate the wormer medications that way.

EDited to say:
I am not crazy about trying to catch and dose each and every chicken here !
Hard enough to tell them apart..but I can throw a bread cube out the gate, one at a time..and hopefully keep track of them that way

yeah next time we will do the eprinex..
hey does eprinex kill gapes ? Got a friend in the south infested with gapes...

We always kick all the birds out of the coop into their run and close the pop door. The kids run around in the run catching the birds, DH and I dose them or dust them as needed, then put them back in the closed coop. Once the run is empty, we know we got them all!

You probably already know this but most of the RA immuno drugs are also used to treat Crohns disease and UC. with Crohns comes RA and many other side effects and the RA drugs suppressed the crohns. So Remicade, Humira, Asacol etc are used to gain remission with crohns. they also treat the arthritis and joint pain that comes with it. Remicade and Humira are biologicals, remicade made from rat proteins and Humira from humans. There are many of us on these drugs and the side effects you mentioned are very rare. none of us live in a bubble or have to wear a mask due to the threat of infection. I know lots of people who have animals, chickens horses dogs etc that cause no harm. You are tested for TB before treatment, and any and all allergies. Some reject or react to the medications but usually in the form of an allergic reaction. Anyway just a little info, dont be to afraid if those drugs can help you out.

All of you, Hallerlake too, have made me feel alot better thanks !!!

I was thinking while on these drugs, my celiac disease and derma-hyper active auto immune reactions would all be taken care of..not meaning I could eat wheat again, just that the immunal system would calm down..that is why docs gave me such a high dosage in the past to "shock the sytem" and get it to STOP.
Then they stop the prednisone cold turkey, which usually throws me into a drug-induced diabetic reaction..sleep for a few weeks and all is once again better.
Oh well, we will worry about it later.
No sense worrying about it at all really.
But thanks everyone for easing the mind !

Ok wow, you never ever stop prednisone cold turkey, there are way to many dangerous things that happen. pred takes over for your adrenal glands and they stop working as long as you are on it. if you stop cold turkey your system can go into renal failure and your kidneys and liver can shut down. any doctor that says to just stop taking it if you have been on it for a few weeks needs a slap upside the head. Pred is the devils drug, I had same bad reactions, tremors shaking weakness eye pressure hysteria. so no pred for me, but the others non steroid drugs are way better than pred. Humira was actually an RA drug that they found would put the IBD into remission. skip the pred and get something better!
