Yeah, I'm not sure what they were... but absolutely stunning birds!

Those birds in cages by the door were pulled off the show for being sick.
One (I was told) was very gouty, and one was sick with maybe MG ?
Not sure...there were ALOT of sick birds there..I have mine on Denigard right now just in case he was exposed.

Lol --- it's been sunny here, yesterday and today. It makes me so happy!

My yard has been nothing but mud. Every time I stomp out there to check the 4wk old chickies, I nearly suffer death-by-slippage... and my shoes get muddy... and the bottoms of my jeans. >.<

But it's not raining today!!

I have a picture of the 3 silkies that were the only auction birds. But I need to down load them. My DD took the picture.

I would have taken more if I remembered to bring my camera.

Wow... That's weird. When I've been at the state fair there showing dogs, I always walk into the chicken barn (now demolished and under construction) and they were in the middle there checking the birds over, performing blood tests and checking them over for mites. If they weren't in good condition, they weren't allowed to show and were sent home. And this is just the 4H kids!

I did horse 4-H and a vet checked the horses before they were aloud in. And my sisters did cats. If one flea was found they couldn't be shown.​

Yes, my oldest DD and I are usually helping run the vet check at the Evergreen Fair. The State Vet does require that your birds are from NPIP stock, or they want to swab them at the show. I did notice a blurb in the WFF show pamphlet about it, but they did nothing as far as a vet check last year, so I wondered if they would improve upon that this year. I wonder if Washington Feather Fanciers really pursues this at all for their shows? My very good friend is the Snohomish County 4-H Poultry Leader, and she contact's the state vet, has him come up on coop in day, and the kids either show their NPIP paperwork or their birds get a blood swab under their wing and a mouth swab for avian influenza. For us, the fairgrounds pays the $85/hr for the state vet to be their, because they want animals at the fair and this is a state law for poultry to be exhibited. But the senior 4-H kids really help him out and make the process go smoother and faster. He usually has one kid holding a bird and one running the paperwork. And then we have 2 or 3 senior kids checking each and every bird over for mites and other health issues.

Very sad to hear there were so many sick birds.
