I don't think any one looks as goofy as me enjoying one of the yummy gf brownies(w/ cream cheese frosting, yummmm) that ogress brought! Looks like I'm trying to teach blueduckling a secret hand signal or something!

Yes I am surprised they don't have someone checking birds at the door....or a vet on scene to pull ones that are obviously sick.

BTW--I meant to come and find you and ask about making me one of those big signs like the duck one you did...

Well I don't think I was that hard to find. I had all the ladies flocking around, ok so it was only to look at my metal work. I saw you several times but you kind of looked like you may not have been feeling very social so I didn't say much. Yes I can make more signs BUT THAT DESIGN NOW BELONGS TO HI. I will do similar but not the same.

Yeah...I would want my farm name and maybe a Sumatra roo silhouette?

Oh and I think it was because I was feeling really sick. My ankles were starting to swell too....and I kept having to pee like every 10 minutes. At least I can say that was baby's first chicken show!

I was more concerned with manning my sales cages and keeping a close eye on the judging.

Congrats to everyone who showed yesterday at Monroe. It was my first show where I entered a bird (two actually, both non recognized types) and I had a very good time!

The weather you North folks have SURE is better than what we've been getting in Olympia! Sunny and WARM!

There were a lot of nice birds and people were very helpful when I collared a few to ask them questions. Poor Robin, I tried not to bug her too much, but she sure helped calm my nerves! I did have a good laugh at her honest anwser (I LOVE THAT IN A MENTOR!) when I said (all excited) "LOOK! Everyone is looking at my chicken!" and she said "Yeah, because he's so WEIRD!"

Poor Rodger, he's a BLRW but he stands like a pouter pidgeon I think they are called. He throws his head back and sticks that big chest right in your face. I don't think the judge was overy impressed with his type, but several people were kind about his pretty coloring!

Will post some pics later this afternoon as I get a chance. Again, congrats to all, win or not, for supporting purebred poultry. I forgot to sign up to join the club, and will do that soon.

I do want to mention one thing: I stopped off to watch the auctioning of some pretty dairy calves to 4H kids. Wow!! these cattle went for over $1000 a piece! I bet not too long ago they were like $100! Anyway, the announcer said something I thought was awesome... He said "Buying a heifer now was cheaper than bailing them out of jail later". I think this is SO true... I watched the 4H kids handle their chickens at the show and I was really impressed with their dedication and their relationships with their birds. Lucky kids, whose parents care enough to support them in this. My parents bought my a little backyard bred, shy, unregistered yellow lab pup when I was 14 years old. My best friends were doing drugs and getting abortions at that age! I went "dog crazy" and now, at 51, have still never done either!

That cheap little dog (and really, no real support from my parents to do dog stuff) got me started in obedience and then into a lifetime of work with and for animals. I sure thank her.

It was nice to meet you too....your comment about the dog...I was the same way with horses...I got my first at age 11 and it helped keep me going in the right direction! A lot of my friends were doing drugs, drinking, partying, one girl I knew got preggo at age 16. The horse kept me busy and away from boys for a while.

I meant to talk to you about Schutzhund...do you train other breeds besides pitties?

Ok I have not caught up yet but just wanted to say I hope my mom behaved herself! I wish I could have come and visited.

I'm sorry to hear there were sick birds in the show. I agree that there should always be a vet check BEFORE they are allowed in the building. this would help cut down any spread of illness as well as make space for healthy birds to show.
I agree with Zgoatlady... I will not show unless there is a vet check required just so I don't have sick birds come home with me and kill my entire flock. (I live in city so not really much space to quarantine.)

I agree about the vet check !

though-- it may not catch everything

lo those many years ago, I used to show cats (redpoint and lynxpoint Siamese and Balinese) ... and despite the required vet check, the cats and I came home with a nice

case of scabies

the Manx caged next to us turned out to be the culprits ... and the breeder apologized profusely, once we had contacted her to let her know
