Love your avatar - get tired of looking at the chickens all the time ... I get feather envy. Love jorses too, but I won't get one. got to muck out a stall a lot more often than a chicken coop!

if you call ahead we can reserve the "jammers" (culls that are bruised, soft, overripe....)

i am not sure what are prices are going to be this year because the peach crop is going to be very short... we had that cold day in november and it killed many trees and we are not sure how much were cold damaged. so beware that anywhere you go prices will be higher... unless we had another 09 cherry disaster... just the trickle affect of oil prices... many pesticides are petrolum based and all farms use diesel equipment and the warehouses too.

Calhoun farms charges $8 per pound on cherries, but they are yummy! Another guy charges half that, but I usually let those rot in the fridge because they have no flavor. If the fruit is tasty, I'll pay higher prices, I just won't buy as much as I would like.

I would be interested in some of the jammers. I don't know why, because it's not like DH and I eat very much in the way of jam. I do like to make jam though. I have enough jam to last for the rest of my life. I would give it away, but getting the jars back is often impossible.

I would like to be included in the email too!! I love canning and making jams and butters.Does anyone have a good go to person for pears?

My family are pear growers... most of our acreage is dedicated to pears... steadier prices compared to apples...
Bartlett, d"Anjou, Comice, Seckel, Bosc, Flemmish, red anjou, Concord, asian pears.....

I'll have to bring my son over to taste test - he LOVES pears!

i could make a mailing list for something like a newsletter to be sent out....

i guess the first step is that i need peoples email addresses. so PM your email addys to me and i will put you on a "Fruitstand Customers" list.

one of these days i need to make the code on the website for email addy capture....

Oh, my gosh...how big is it? How exciting. What does your DH think? LOL. I am just so excited about my little brinsea. I love it. I want to put more eggs in it and hatch out another batch...but we keep eating all our fresh eggs and my eggs are half BR and half cochin Bantam. I misunderstood what my little roo was.

RFF: When are you culling your big roos? I really would like to have a large roo for my ladies and know that I can have some babies that will grow up to be good layers.

I really want a friendly roo, but a big roo.

I love pears, but stay away from ones that are not organic. To much ikky.
Love bosc and asians. Love persimmmmmons too. Anybody have those?
YUM.
I usually buy my peaches from Yakima, but last year I bought them from your folks and didn't buy enough.
Tell me when the fruits are ready and I'll visit my friend's cabin & go rafting then. Probably be up there by June.

I can so relate. This is the reason that I have a coop with pull out drawers. I wanted DH to look at the coops here on BYC, but he said he didn't have time. He really wanted to build a coop with drawers, so that is what I have. I have learned to

over the years. But I have to say that sometimes it really pays to listen to what I am really trying to say, and DH knows that most of the time I am right about things.

Still sometimes it's easier to

, and let the guy handle things.

Well as long as I don't get the winter kind of pears, I will be happy with any pear that I can get.

Okay, put 25 eggs into my Brinsea. Only 13 were fertile (another reason I need a larger roo, so he can actually reach the girls regularly)...Poor Tyson (short man syndrome). Out of the 13 we have 7 that have hatched, one that has pipped and should hatch any time if it is going to...this one has been really slow. There is a good hole showing his/her beak and it is breathing, but it is being lazy. So that leaves 5 that I am unsure of their status. I see no pips or the eggs moving or hear peeping. So I am just not sure if they are good or not. Today is day 21. Gosh they are so cute.

That's pricey! I hope it tastes awesome! I get my beef from West Valley Beef in Duvall - 1/4 each fall. That is way more beef than our family eats. I'll gladly trade some of it for other foods (fish and other seafood are high on my list, yum!) The beef is not certified organic because they don't won't the expense of going certified. I can't remember how much I pay .... since I get little bills a few times a year, it does not seem to be terribly expensive. I think I pay $150 in March, $100 to the butcher and the balance (another $200 or so) when they kill and weigh it. I got over 200 pounds of meat this fall. Usually it is not quite that much.

I'll trade you some smoked salmon?
Or some scallops?

I vote for smoked salmon, DH votes for scallops .... either is fine. Let me know what cuts you like. I love all the roasts and steaks, but I don't care for the ground beef much. My family loves the GB, but I'm used to the slaughterhouse special made from 1000 cows and sitting out on the slaughterhouse floor for 24 hours fermenting before it is refrigerated and packaged. I have to remind myslef of that each time. I read "Fast Food Nation" and I need to picture that slaughterhouse every time I think I am eating a tasty burger. All my meat somes from the same cow raised in that valley between your house and mine. Cute cows - if you buy from them you'll get a Christmans card with some photos of the owners and the cows in a misty meadow or as little calves playing with their nephew/niece in a sunny spring field. Then you will feel guilty as you bite into that yummy roast you made from the cute cow in the photo, but you know it is fresh.
