Type in egg eaters in the search here on BYC. You"ll see a bunch of posts ( threads? ) go down to the SEVENTH one . the date should be Apr. 22 2009

Hope this helps

I *may* have gotten my first double-yolker

the egg I just collected from the nest box is more than TWICE as big as the first five eggs

..... and I didn't get an egg yesterday

tomorrow for breakfast, I will find out, I now have enough eggs to do a taste-test

(comparing them with Costco generic white eggs)

at least I know who laid it

I let the chickens out of the tractor where they had been most of the day,
they ran and flew and cavorted back to the coop and run ... probably 50 feet or so

(did not need to throw bread chunks, they know the way ... )

five pullets and the cockerel headed for the hanging feeder
D.gif

five ??? thought I had six pullets ....

then checked and there was one fluffed down in the nest box in the far side of the coop, so I let her be

I just went out to doublecheck, and yes, there was an egg
ya.gif

... and it was Dierdre (as I suspected earlier) who laid it

(good thing DH gave me some colorful zip-ties -- four of them look so much alike it is sometimes difficult to tell who's who)

this egg is slightly paler mint green, almost pastel turquoise --- and still warm

hard to wait until morning ... but I've already eaten dinner

Hey, Jynx! I've got relatives up around Elk Plain, and got my favorite chickens from a lady in Graham.

Hi Jynx.

Sorry I couldn't resist.

How about Azure or my grandmas name Louella- the older I get the more I love that name.

Of course I love the name Hannah.

But I know of a lady younger than me whose name is gretta. Now there is an old name for you.

Well we sat in the back yard today, sipping wine, looking at all the birds. Middle DS kept bring the young roos up to the husband so that husband could check out the "hackle" feathers and "saddle" feathers he could use for fly-tying. So now the DH is all into butchuring off the roos. And just to let you all know.....Tyson is hitting the road too. He is mean. He not only attacks me - then he gets laid out by a sitck, post, goodie sheet, whathaveyou....but he alerts the ladies that I am bad news whenever enter the run and as soon as I leave he attacks his least favorite ladies. I don't want that....so he is down the road.

Really loving the orps. Good dual purpose bird. Friendly, cute. Fluffy.

BTW, new job is great. Lovin it.

I saved the feathers that my flock shed, when they got their second, or is it third?, set of feathers; they are wing, tail, and body feathers but I could send some if he needs them

black and white, goldy-bronze with patterning in dark brown and black, all gold, all rust, or fluffy down, that's mostly what it is

I've not forgotten about you & your freezer camp roos.

Once the SIL's wedding is over (8/6) things should calm down for the in-laws, until the baby gets here! I have my next appointment on Monday (36 weeks) so we'll see...I'm ready to be done but I don't want her to get here TOO early.

Yeah--there are way too many NICE roos in the world to put up with any mean ones.

I'd be sending him to freezer camp, too!

You might get enough meat to make a sandwich!

I'm glad you're loving your new job...it's so hard around here to find a job to begin with!

So I sort of have the homeowner on board BUT only if we sign our lease for another year and add an addenum about chickens on the property. Our current year lease expires at the end of August. Now my problem is getting DH to go for this idea, when we otherwise have the option of going month to month. (He doesn't know I've been talking to them about chickens, and he doesn't really want chickens anyway). Sheesh - so much hassle for a few birds.
