Good morning friends! I'm up and sipping my cuppa. My stomach and body seem to be doing better today. I certainly can't afford another day in bed, that is for sure! My house is scary trashed. DH was working on side jobs all day yesterday, so not much got done on the house. I honestly think EVERY single dish (except baking pans) is dirty.
Last night my hubby brought home two more hens and two more roosters. His friend was feeding a local hawk with his hens. He decided he was done with chickens and wanted the whole group gone. He thought he had three hens and a rooster. DH arrived home with them and one of the "hens" is definitely a cross (maybe silky or frizzle?) roo. We put them all together last night in the coop and watched for any problems.
It is supposed to be stormy today, so I'll leave the birds in the coop for the day. Will have to leave the light off, I'm afraid to have it on with the new roos in there. Need to find a home for two roosters....anyone want one? We canNOT keep four roosters. Problem is, DH refuses to let any of them go someplace they will become food. He has become attached to the two we already had. We both want to keep the larger of the new ones. And DD wants to keep the smaller of the new ones (which would not be big enough for food anyways). I have a feeling we will end up finding a new home for Joe (barred rock mutt rooster). We'll probably keep the Road Island Red (there is some question on his breed, discussion going on a different thread), just because he is beautiful. We'll probably keep Kung Pao (barred rock mutt), because he is one of the first ones we hatched from our own birds and we are sentimental. I'm not sure on the little one yet. He is obviously a cross of some sort, either frizzle or silky. He is the softest bird I've ever touched and DD really wants to keep him. Problem is, last night he was the only one that was being picked on when we put the birds together. He is so much smaller, the hens were beating him up.
Ah, life in the country.
