I went to that Stevenson show. I have to say I was disappointed. I expected to see a lot of birds and all that was there was bantams and a bunch of silkies, and CR -- who was very busy with customers so we didn't bother him.

LOL...hey, as long as you want to keep taking what I hatch, that works for me. I'm not sure what to do with the poor roosters though.

It probably would be good if I could determine the sex while they were young too...

Monroe farm and feed will take your roos for free

I'll take your roosters! Oh wait, I'm way far away. . . .

Yeah I'm not too surprised on Stevenson. Lots of peoples' birds are molting lately. I'd have a very nice Shamo hen to take as well as a very nice Araucana hen to take, but, I can't go.

It's good to hear from you Cheri. I have been thinking of canning more. I want to can soup. DH likes to eat soup like Progresso, and Progresso is expensive. I also would rather have him eat food cooked from scratch. He does prefer my cooking, but that isn't surprising given that he has to eat in restaurants. I need to find a gasket for my pressure canners. That means I need to dig out the canners. I have had them for years, and have yet to get gaskets for either one.

I make big pots of soup or stew, divide it into containers, and freeze it. It's easier than canning.

I have used the freezer for years, but as far as I know that potatoes don't freeze well. So I thought that canning the soup or stew would make it taste better when it's eaten later. As far as making soups or stews, I still haven't learned the recipe for a small batch. I have been trying to make a small batch for nearly 30 years now. Now if I could figure out how save the stuffed pepper leftovers. I don't like leftovers very much. I really wish I did. I wish that the peppers would freeze and thaw into an edible dish again.

when were you there?
I just got home a few hours ago, musta missed you again!
And yes, once again it was a great disapointment.
There was only 1 American class bird, and to my surprise, a mottled Java hen, which was almosy completely black and only had a few white spangles on SOME of her feather ends.
She did not apear to me to have yellow soles either, but being the only entry, she will at least get BB, BV.
There were Black Australorps...no other Americans.
No RIR, No Buckeye, NO java, no NH, NO Dellies, none.
Lotsa bantams, in every breed, and lotsa ducks, but hey, this is so close to Oregon.

Maybe you can meet up with me & catch a ride to Monroe, and I will have a few crates, but I do have the backseat in my van now, and behind there room for lotsa crates..

and I bought a white silkie pullet today from Sheryl......who always seems to have 100 birds to sell.
I am also getting very partial to Seremas....especially DH, and especially after we go to the feed store.

These were the screen shots I got. It's only a couple of seconds in the movie, but it was one of the funniest parts, IMHO.

They're supposed to be painted to look like two Spix's Macaws (main characters in the movie).

Good to know...not that I normally have any reason to go to Monroe.
