Where do y'all get the plastic trays you use as poop trays? I can't run around looking, so I need to know I can buy something for sure before I leave the house.
I have a piece of plywood under my roost (not a ladder roost - just 1 pole) I just had it ripped down the center so it is 2 x 8. I built a frame and put it under the roost. I put a bit of a lip on it using some of the cheap 1 x 4 that Home Depot has in their discount section. This just helps to keep in the sand. I then put sand on the plywood. It is exactly like a giant litter box. I think the plastic bin you saw on CL is a big black "thing" they use to mix concrete in. I have some of those that I bought for multiple uses (including under the bunny pen where she potties to catch all her stuff for my garden)... Also purchased at Home Depot. Also, I did not buy sand by the bag, I had a dump truck load brought in. I put a good thick layer down in my runs, the coop, and it is used for the poop trays too.
Yeah, buying sand by the dumptruck-load is not going to happen here; it disappears too fast in wet weather. I'm actually on essentially pure sand, anyway, if I were in better shape I'd just go down to the end of the field and dig up a wheelbarrow load but not this decade, thanks.
I'm looking for something lighter than plywood for making poop trays. Sand is heavy for me anyway, adding the weight of wood is just not wise.
