We finally lost power for a couple hours last night. I wouldn't have even noticed except for the flashing clocks.

Thanks CR. Guess that's as good an invite as I'll ever get. The news from "home" and all the weather troubles is astounding! It's sounding worse than last year. Mom lives just outside of Monroe with her Blue and Gold Macaws and a ringneck or two. I grew up in North Seattle, lived in Yakima for 8 years and then spent about 18 years near Lake Stevens before coming to California seven years ago. Having raised and shown dogs for years and Borzoi at that, I'm new to chickens. I never had the nerve to raise such tempting prey for the dogs. Fresh eggs got the best of me so we have embarked on a new adventure since we have the space. So far so good with a trio of Black Copper Marans to begin with. So far these first are a bit experimental. No free ranging here and we hope to add a couple of Australorps to see how we like them. Knowing myself, I could become a bit obsessive over the chickens eventually and want a show quality flock. Thank you all for the great snow pictures and tales of woe. Finally our winter rains have come on with a vengeance. We even lost power for the first time last night . A mere three hours this time. This fall and winter have been blessed so far as usually the rains begin around Thanksgiving. Sorry Illia on the loss of your Shamo and congrats on the fireside hatching by RedRoosterFarm. Great photos of the North Bend snopack Ogress. I don't know if I'm doing this posting stuff quite right but here goes. This is my brothers home between Marysville and Kayak Pt. WAI see we are being spied on by a Californian Come on and say HI we really don't bite ! ! !
The DW (Rikke) has a "Magnolia grandiflora" growing in the front rose garden. I'm impressed it even survives this far north.
There's a miniature M.Grandiflora developed by Briggs which has a constitution of iron; miniature in the sense that it's not the 60X60 of the species. It's all over town in Oly, notably in the parking lot of the Briggs branch of the YMCA, on the corner of the original nursery (they've since moved out to Porter).
Is that the 'Little Gem'? I had it in Federal Way. Frozen rain/or heavy wet snow broke it repeatedly.
Thanks CR. Guess that's as good an invite as I'll ever get.

awesome! I am hoping ours really gets happy this year! It's only about 12' - 14' tall at this point.
What Mr H wants is the Magnolia macrophyla, Big leaf magnolia. There are a couple in my neighborhood. They have enormous leaves with silvery undersides, and humongous flowers. It is deciduous.
For our pans (we have 11) we use Lodge cast iron, For our peg legged dutch ovens we have 1 Lodge, 2 Cabelas and 1 Camp Chef. We use the Cabelas dutch ovens the most. The Lodge dutch oven I only use when my sister is over for dinner its gluten free.
Hey CL are you on APN site?
I have a question. I have a gorgeous Welsummer cockerel (8+ months, NOT hatchery stock) who is aggressive towards me. He's ok if I carry a stick into the pen.I am keeping the pullets as they are excellent layers and I love the dark spotted eggs. I have no plans anymore to raise Wellies. I don't need him. Is it worth it to try and rehome him - yes I would say he's aggressive - or should I just plan on having him for dinner next Sunday? My vote is for dinner but he might be an excellent protector and daddy if he was free ranging.
