Hi All; I hope that everyone is recuperating from the storms this past week. We had over 2 foot of snow up here and my birds stayed in their coop looking out the door as if to say "I am NOT stepping foot outside." They were all very happy to see the Sun today.
I have 2 beautiful English orpington splash pullets that are just starting to lay. I would like to sell them, if anyone is interested let me know. They look a little rough cause of being a little wet, but they are healthy and happy birds.

just got an email for internships at the Smithsonian in D.C.....   it looks interesting but i would have to provide food and housing....  $420/week stipend is what they give for graduates (which by summer i hope to be)

http://www.gardens.si.edu/horticulture/res_ed/intern/intern3.htm

what do you think?   its for 10-16 weeks... but where would i find housing for that amount of time?   it would be impressive to have on a resume saying "i worked for the smithsonian"

Ask whatever Career Planning and Placement is called at WSU now, they may have a list of Coug alums who can provide housing. Also call Constituent Services at your Congress Critter's office, they may have a list of accomodations available for Federal interns. A friend of mine interned at the Library of Congress ages ago and stayed with a bunch of other interns in a shared rental house for a really cheap price, I know.

I was half way down the driveway finally spreading some gravel to at least make it easier to walk and realized thatI wa sweatting not because I was working hard but bcause I was about to pass out from low blood sugar. Oh, well: *** soon as DH finishes feeding the EEs e'll be going grocery shopping, so I have to get the gravel out of the wheelbarros so we can bring stuff back up the hill.

I wish getting the driveway back was something other people could do. I chopped sufficient ice that we're now parked up the hill two car lengths instead of at the low point which is still liquid ice.

I gave up trying to melt the ice at the bottom of the front porch and spread pea gravel there, too: I need to make a sign reminding DH to be careful when it thaws, or he'll slip on the gravel-on-pavers before I can sweep it.

Plenty of Hamburg eggs, of course!

The only thing I know it could be is that I just opened a 'new' (just bought) bag of feed. I have never had issues before, but have read that it can happen. I'm just at a lost with what is wrong.

If salt is bad for chickens, why do they (the medical book for chicksens, I have) says to give epson salts (a form of magnesium) to help flush chicken's colon of toxin? Medical issues are so confusing! My hubby has bought me all these medical books (chicken specific) and I'm still confused!

(I was studying to be a vet in college, but got married instead of finishing. I know,..... sounded smart at the time!)

Last summer our neighbor's wife got lung cancer, smoking her entire life, and in a few weeks was gone

Poor old guy packed up a few carloads of stuff & left for a retirement community.

he was broke, and cared not about anything left behind in the 4 bedroom home, barn & a double wide rental, and a single wide rental on his property.
Since then, he has returned to gather a few more things & came today to say someone had stolen the lawn mower & weed wacker and anything else there we are free to have.

Dh has been over there 2 X scavenging ...I imagine the bank repo guy will be there soon to put locks on, gut it out & put it up for auction.
Before he does, I just may go nab the washer & dryer in 1 unit.

The old guy left ALL the pretty stuff, cut crystal & touch me nots..I got a few nice pieces.
So weird the way one's entire life just is strewn about the place: scrapbooks, records, memoribilia.......tokens from opreas & vacations.pictures & slides from all those years.

Sad.

If it is the feed, why is she the only one ill ?
What are the symptoms anyways ? maybe we can help ?

I want to eat at your house! I love sit down meals. No one here eats meals anymore. Either too sick or on the run or hates veggies or whatever so I rarely cook. When I do I eat it all myself. Tonight I'm cooking an artichoke. Maybe some brussel sprouts. The other nite I made some Gnocchi. First time I made it or ate it. Used potatoes from the garden and eggs. It was yummy. Made a Gorgonzola Cream sauce and salad to go with it. I'm the only one who ate it. Then I had it for Breakfast. The boys eat Costco chimichangas, cold cereal, sandwiches and chicken tenders. DH could eat beans, tortillas and scrambled eggs every day. They don't know what they are missing. At least they fix it themselves. They don't dare ask me to cook. They might get a vegetable!
We are having a Thanksgiving-like dinner here tonight.
I bought one of those jenny-O turkey roasts that are frozen in a aluminum pan.
Then I am making pumpkin custard (in a pyrex rather than crust), cranberry sauce, smash-a-taters, giblet gravy (was in the freezer from November) Yams....and all we need now is the green bean casserole

I am not terribly fond of the GBC..though DH is, and being that Campbell's Cream of Shroomy Soup has wheat in it, he ain't getting no GBC !!!!!!!

He will have to settle for home grown GB's from our garden instead !

Pumpkin pie custard cooking in the oven smells yummy in here !

One thing I hate about this new BYC is sitting here waiting for the next reply after mine,
The page will not update, unless I go back a page (waite & waite) then go to the new page (waite some more)
It is as if it will not self load & update on my screen.
If I do not go back a page & then forward, in other words if I post & just waite, the page on my screen will forever be the same.
I have sat here thinking I have killed the thread only to realize there is new posts under mine, and even new pages.

never happens with e-mail.
I can sit here & see a new e-mail pop up....but never happens on new BYC.
The pages on this new BYC also load so SLOW, and no other web sites do that to me.

These pages load so slow as sometimes my puter seems to just go brain dead & if I hit the refresh it wakes back up.

Too much info on each page ?
