I feel just awful.

One of our little Serama hens went broody just before it turned nasty-nasty cold...So I brough her in the house and set her up in a rubbermaid tote and away she went...she was probably about 2 weeks in to it. I have the 3 chicks that hatched from the eggs that Cloverleaf gave me....those babies are right at 4 weeks old. They have been in their brooder box in the  other room....well, company was coming up. So i figured I put the brooder box with babies into the "extra" room with the broody momma. Well, when I came home today, went to check on everyone (food and water)....(that room is also housing a cat that broke her elbow)...and Martha the hen was not sitting on the eggs and she was pecking at them.

I think that she heard the peeping babies (1 month olds) and thought hers were ready to hatch. She is not in the least interested now...they have been uncovered for quite some time...as they seem a bit cold..I am sure they are dead. I feel bad for Martha the hen.Time wasted. Thought she had babies...only to have no babies. How heart breaking.

pop them into a bator quick and they should survive

Any chance you could pop in from San Diego? It's not far. We drove once from San Marcos to Olympia, straight through, and in snow and ice. Course, by the time we got to Klamath, (detour 'cus of snow) hubby was seeing gremlins in bushes.
He only drove over two front lawns, and only once got the trailer stuck in a drive through - not bad eh

I'm thinking us BYC'ers really eat well, yours sound yummy - love those Japanese eggplants (expensive here right now, WHEN you can find them)

OMG - too funny!!! Having a hard time imagining driving straight through, especially in snow and ice. No wonder your hubby saw gremlins - it's a wonder he didn't see werewolves!
We BYC'ers DO eat well. Gosh - this thread alone gets my mouth watering on an almost daily basis. I think I'm lucky that those Japanese eggplants are readily available here and are not horribly expensive. I promise that if I come up, I'll bring a big bag of them just for you. They were that yummy!

And while ya are all talkin bout food and yer dinners I may as throw this one out. Tonight I cooked a nice BIG Elk Round roast (Thanks to Broody) and spuds-n-gravy and my version of mixed veg. Just got done making a Washington Apple cake and it is in the oven right now. That will be tomorrows dessert. One of these days I will get brave and make this cake by the recipe. That would be minus all the extra goodies I tend to add. Like tonight I added a bunch of apple sauce (goes in most of what I bake for moisture) a couple good shots of my most recently harvested honey, some diced figs I had and of course a few extra apples.
