So I have a small upright freezer (still in my kitchen) that died - here a couple of weeks ago. How do I break it to husband that I think it would make a really nice incubator? The motor seized up in it (per DH - I don't have a clue

). it has to go somewhere .... why not repurpose it?

here's a link to the Wikipedia article on "Iz", who is/was a person, rather than a group, though he did often have backup musicians

I think his surname translates as something like "child without sorrows"; my Hawaiian dictionary has gone walkabout so I can't confirm that

Don't know if this has already been posted (trying to catch up) but Iz did one of THE most beautiful renditions of Over the Rainbow I've ever heard...

Brother Iz rendition of somewhere over the rainbow / what a wonderful world was what I used for my little brothers picture montage at his funeral. its used quite often in that capacity. it took me a week to make the video and I had to watch my brother over and over and play that song. I cry everytime I hear it.

Hi All!
made it to Wyoming last night at 10 pm, after I spent the night in the Walmart parking lot in Post Falls ID!! One of the back tires started to split!! It's a good thing I'm not a sissy la la girl!! I had just fueled up and was headed to MT, and I heard what I thought was an unbalanced tire. But, it kept getting louder, so I dove off the next exit I came to and pulled up to the air hose thingy. I got out and looked at the back tires and I couldn't see anything flat, so I got out the flash light and found a 10 in gash with steel sticking out!! So I pulled back into better light and tried calling Terry, and yea, he had shut his phone off! So, I call my daughter and told her. As I was talking to her some cops pulled up. I went and told him what happened and asked where the closest Walmart was, and he told me 6 miles back. I told him I should probably change the tire to the donut, cause I wasn't sure if the tire was going to make it, now, do you think he offered to call anyone, or help?? H NO!!! So, I had to take all the crap out of the trunk and change it myself, I did ok, I've done it enough to know how, (good thing I asked Terry to show me how to use this peticular jack). Anyway, you won't believe how many men in trucks came into that gas station, and do you think one of them asked me if I needed help?? I have never been to a place that was so stuck up!! Anyway, got to spend most of the day with my son, very emotional and tomorrow will be even worse, but, he is doing very well and I am so proud of him! (he's in treatment for substance abuse) in case I didn't state earlier. We have a center circle thing tomorrow and we will be talking about what has happened to our family because of his abuse, ect. I am sure it will be very emotional and draining. Went to an AA meeting here with his group, pretty cool! Anyway, weather is incredibly warm for here this time of year! It was warmer in Billings and down here, then it is back there!! Anyway, wanted you all to know I'm here safe and sound and will be coming back Wednesday!!! Hope you are all staying warm and keeping the shiny side up!! I don't have time to go back and check the posts, congrats to all the new chickies just hatched, Cl nice pics of the Buckeye pullets! Take care!
I'll try to post right before I leave!

I find I am quite fond of Richard Ho'opi'i .. my cottage tenant sometimes accompanies him ... if you love Hawaiian music I can get you tons of tapes, they show up quite regularly in the Kula Hospital thrift store ... or perhaps I can talk to Mary and get her

I will have to look him up.
A couple of my favorites are Keali'i Reichel and Pekelo, and for goofy island humor, Frank de Lima and Bula'ia. ;)

totally agree on all of these ... Keali'i Reichel shows up at most of the festivals and often I will go there just to hear him

I posted a couple of links for Richard Ho'opi'i but they may have been deleted ... however, just do a search on Google for his name and YouTube, you will find quite a few ...

check the links on posts #62968 and 62970 ... the audio quality isn't the greatest (at least on my sound card and with my cheapie speakers), but it gives you a feeling of how he sings; also his wife is an awesome dancer of hula

If you rub your hand on your lower jaw by your ear what does it feel like? Also how are your sinus?

Feels like something is stuck inside my L ear, and the left feels like it has a bump when I compare it to the other, though it is only a little sore if I press.

I'm thinking that all the talking I am doing now is aggravating it. I never had a job where I had to talk so much! the pain worsens as the day goes on, and by the evening I sometimes can't open my mouth right away, or wide enough. I worked 9 am to after 9pm today. We are entering our traditional peak weeks and I have already completed half of the number of tax returns they are expecting me to do for the season. I am taking tomorrow off so I don't go any crazier.

That is amazing! How many people did it take to eat it?

Mine was made with Pate a choux. Filling cream was chocolate, cointreau and vanilla, with vanilla whipped cream. I only used 9 eggs!

I love making stuff with pate a choux - they look so resplendent, don't they!

I had to look up "Pate a choux". I have several recipes, all from my mom, that use similar techniques. My Buche de Noel recipe is from mom and it is written in dutch with metric measurements and temperatures as I was doing the conversions, I searched on line and found an almost identical recipe which I followed, but made the Swiss butter cream mocha flavored as that is how mom always made it. Unfortunately, I did not bookmark it and the recipe got so spattered that i tossed it, figuring I could always print another. I did find this much smaller version of the cake, it is very similar:
http://www.saveur.com/article/Recipes/Coffee-Buttercream-Buche-De-Noel

That cake there was HUGE! The butter cream with all the meringue in it whipped up light and fluffy, so I only used half of what I made. I used the rest to frost other things and to attach help affix the mushroom caps and stems (on some I used nutella)

8 people worked away at the cake for over a week! Turns out my kids aren't that wild about mocha flavored frosting, but they loved the custardy filling. About a third of the cake vanished the first time I served it. My sponge looked really good and rolled nicely, but when I transferred it to a big plate it cracked and the custard was leaking out.

The pine-cones are almond. Take blob of almond paste and shape it like an elongated Hershey Kiss, stick a bunch of of sliced (slivered?) almonds in it to make it look like a pine cone, then make a chocolate sauce that will turn semi-hard in a double boiler and drizzle over the pine cone until it is coated. Don't toast the almonds because it will cause them to shatter when you push them into the almond paste.

Although none of my blue egg layers are producing, I'm getting eggs steadily from the light sussex, the Faverolles girls, and my BCM. Dan and I cannot consume this bounty so I thought I'd just offer some to friends (for a small feed donation), and holy cow! What a response I got! By yesterday I'd supplied 4 friends with eggs and have "orders" for a few more dozen this week or as soon as my girls can give them up. I'm not interested in having regular egg customers, but I've only before just given them to family members. I just thought maybe if I can buy a bag of food from time to time with a few extra $, why not?

So it's nice that the girls are helping to support themselves and I'm able to share their beautiful eggs with friends. This is a wonderfully unexpected bonus for a city girl's hobby.

I'm taking that egg money to Del's today to pick up supplies.

On another topic - CALIFORNIA SUITE has gotten a couple of very nice reviews in local papers already and audiences are really enjoying the show. Alec Clayton of the Tacoma News Tribune will be reviewing sometime next weekend. My "co-star", the brilliant Elliot Weiner who plays my husband has been making cracks that I'm getting all the big laughs and the audience empathizes more with my character than his. Well yeah, since your character is trying to hide a hooker in our hotel room, I guess so!
Here is our first review - someone you might know has gotten a little mention...

I would love to go see it, but have unfortunately surrendered my life to H&R until tax season is over.
