Thanks Jen & ReikeStar. It seems impossible to find a breeder in WA.

Thanks for the farm store info. I'll call to get more information about their source, etc.

If anyone later on knows of a BA breeder please do let me know. TIA

There are a few more that didn't make it in the pics but I really don't have that many. I only have 20 LF, 10 B, Silkiebator, 8 B Am chicks (1 week) and Pierre.
Can you let me know if you know anyone looking for a partridge rock roo? I live to "in the city" to keep him and he looks as though he will be gorgeous!

Question for whomever posted about the Eprinex and Permectrin II. I am continuing to gather stuff for our chicken first aid kit. Can I get away with one or the other, or are both handy full time. I noticed Eprinex gets rid of internal and external parasites (and worms??) and it's only applied on the neck of the chicken (therefore not in the water, yay!). What does Permectrin do? Is it moot if I already have Eprinex? Thanks!

Does anyone have any silkies you can part with?? I want one that is at least 11-18 weeks old. Really needs to be a good fit with my flock. I'm picking up two Marans pullets on Saturday and can keep a new silky with them so I'd LOVE to get one Saturday!!! Yes, must be a pullet. No, I don't care what color.
Silkies are hard to sex before 5-6 months. Sometimes you can't tell until they lay or crow and that can be as late as 9 months. So anyone with silkies the age you are looking for aren't going to know for sure if it's a pullet or cockerel. And it is best to raise silkies with other breeds from very young chicks if you want them in a mixed flock. Some have vaulted skulls and can be injured very easily if another chicken pecks them on the head. It's a very vulnerable spot for them, kind of like the soft spot on an infants head.
Not to say it hasn't been done before, but I am keeping my silkies seperate from my mixed flock of LF. I think the hardest part is getting you a pullet that is the age you want. You just can't sex them that soon, accurately. So don't be too disappointed if you don't get any. My oldest are just about 6 weeks. And I have been talking to a lot of "silkie experts" on the silkie thread to get as much info on them as possible since this is my first time having them.

ETA- I am just letting you know what I have learned in the last couple of months.

Thanks so much! I do appreciate knowing that a lot! I decided to just take my chances and hope one or more of my own girls goes broody in the springtime. I will have 11 girls, all different breeds, *someone* is bound to go broody...I hope! Now you're making me want to get some silky chicks in the spring though, and have a separate coop for them...hmm

I have Eprinex too. But I got Sevin powder and I think I am going to get Permectrin II so I can spray. I have flies too so I figure I can spray it all around every week or so.

I have flies. Oh and I have learned that Silkies get mites very easily, so I am arming myself to prevent an investation the best I can. I actually just don't like bugs! Any kind really.

You know they don't take up as much room as LF, right? They are small! Lol! I'm not a chicken pusher, really!
