Oh, I know! I just HATE to see "Nicki" or "Nicky!" Probably because I've had my name misspelled every conceivable way, and by the time I was 10 or so I had a deep-seated prejudice against the letter "c".

Incidentally, are you a natural born Nikki, or is it short for Nicole? My name is Nikki on my birth certificate, but I'm an oddball on that score, I know. Funny thing...when we adopted our son, his birth mom's name is Nicole, and my case worker was Nicky. I'd phone the case worker, and it would start, "Hi, Nicky. This is Nikki. I need to talk to you about Nicole." Life is a weird thing.

From Morton Castle Rock is, if not close, at least as close as anything else. Our former dean of students is now the principal at the elementary school in Castle Rock. Her name is Angela Bacon, and she's a national treasure. I wish we could have kept her in Morton, but I'm sure she's awesome in Castle Rock, too. You're lucky to have her!

As far as obligatory chicken talk, we just LOVE our "girls!" They have so much personality, and are so funny. Especially our barred rock, Amelia. She's very curious, and has her beak into everything. She tried to pick the rhinestones off my shirt yesterday! She often hangs out on our back doorstep...I think she'd like to be a house bird if we'd just let her in.

Anyway, welcome! Great to have someone on board who knows how to spell important names!

I don't know if I already responded to this post or not, I've been gone a week with no internet access and came back to 568 new posts just in this thread! There's no way I'm going to be able to read up on all those!! Lol

We are right on the boarder of Castle Rock and Kelso, so our kids actually go to a Kelso school, which is great for us, because we love their school!!

They are hilarious!! I love watching them. I missed them while I was gone, I can't wait to go down tomorrow to see them for the first time since I've been home. We still have a few things to finish in their house and from what I was reading in another thread, I need to get on the ball because they could start laying....yesterday! Yikes! We don't have their roosts or nest boxes up yet. We just got the barn built and then I had to go out of town and my husband had knee surgery so everything has been put on hold. Oh boy I have a busy few days ahead of me!

Now I have 3x Coq au Vin, and one meat bird that Justbugged traded me for one of the roos.
As morbid as this may sound, it was reassuring to see how healthy the boys looked on the inside.

Well, here is what happened in Omak today, oh, and please remember I live on the DRY side of the state:


Okay so we had this for roughly an hour....it led to things like this:

this is the front of my favorite mexican food restaurant. It is on main street. There was approx 5 inches of water standing on main street.

Okay, all this rain today flooded the basement of the hospital - where I work. Our medical records department (where I work) is in the basement. There is a ramp that leads to the basement for supplies. There is a drain (good sized one) for when it rains so it does not flood basement....well, said drain was overwhelmed. There was a good 2.5 to 3 inches of water rushing under the door and garage door that was in the "bay" area. It seeped into the hallways, into our IS department (computer guys), the electronic room, the file room, the supply room...that water did not get much above 1.5 inches in these area...but what a mess. As we were working on our mess, physical therapy and Dialysis personnel came over asking for help...they were flooding. It was absolutely nuts. We called in the fire department to help us pump out water and clean it up. Those guys were great.

Oh, I did not take these photos...I "borrowed" them. Good shots.

I have some wee ones here slightly smaller than cherry tomatoes. They are appropriately enough, called Red Robin tomatoes.

We really enjoyed and appreciated all the help with the meat birds that FlyRobin gave us today. We got 16 out of 26 of our birds, plus 4 of Robin's roos done in just about 3 hours. We are opting to let the other of our birds grow another week or two. They are still on the small side, even though they are 8 weeks old now. Here are a few pictures of DH and Robin working.

OK so since I'm going to butcher our one extra roo on Saturday (in 8 days)...does anyone have any roosters they don't want to butcher and eat for themselves? I am willing to take 2-3 more unwanted roosters to process next week. I will pick them up Friday. Let me know if you have any you simply don't want! Thanks

I have two roo's (Princess's brothers) that need to go. I know I am kind of far from you. But if anyone else plans to attend Justbugged freezer session, and needs roo's from the north end, or if anybody needs roo's in general, just PM me. Problem is the girls and I are flying out to Boston late Sunday, so they will need to get picked up before then. DH is clueless about which birds are for what. ;-) They are 3/4 Ameraucana and 1/4 Marans, both have pea combs, both have clean legs (no feathers) one is cuckoo and one is black. They were hatched in early April. Free to any BYC'ers that want them. Also still have extra Serama roo's available, free to whomever may want one. Have 2-3 of them.....have a friend coming tomorrow who may take one of them.

It's not bad. If you could do dissections in high school biology or clean and cut meat in the kitchen, butchering and processing isn't too different really.

Chickie Lady, I misread your post, I thought it said "Jersey Giant,". I went over the photos with a fine tooth comb - wondering why I just kept seeing a big tomato instead of a chicken. LOL.

Actually I was looking for one of her BBS Jersey Giants too, until I re-read and realized she was talking about the tomato!

This is one of the Sphinx babies:
very cool leopard pattern & also 3/4% Maran (AMxCm then bred back to the CM and then bred back again makes 3/4 Maran.
Hoping it is a pullet, the other was a cockerel & sold fast, beautiful !

Wow! For a vulture lookalike, she sure turned out some pretty kiddos!

Yikes Teresa, I'm glad the fire department was able to pump out the basement and you and your coworkers are safe...scary place to be in a flood!
