Back in high school we had to do an "emotional" picture for my photography class. My friend and I found a dead guinea pig, and so I took a picture of him crying by it. Frosty, if you ever find a dead one, it certainly would be interesting to me to see a pic of it.
This reminds me of this huge garden/banana spider (yellow and black) that made this beautiful web outside out patio door, and we left it alone because it was truly a work of art. I have another one now in one of my pens. I gotta take pics.

Frosty, how thick is that nest? What does the outside look like?

Once, at my prior house, I went away for a few days, and hubby stayed home. When I got home, there were dead yellow jackets all over the house. Then I stepped on one and the pain kept me awake all night. It was awful. There was nothing in the cellar or the attic. We had to call an exterminator. The nest was inside our kitchen wall, and huge. We found the opening outside. He had to drill holes into our inside kitchen wall and spray some powder in there.

Here in Florida, we had gotten alot of rain one year. I'm sitting in the living room, and notice some ants. SOME is an understatement. There was a large track of ants covering along the walls, went around my livingroom, into the dining room, and on it's way to the kitchen. By the time I vacuumed them up, I turned around and there was the gravy train again. I could have done that all night. They were pouring out from under the floor trim boards. It was like a Hitchcock movie. We eventually found their entrance. What a nightmare.

I didn't mean to leave you guys hanging... had some dental work done yesterday. I thought about telling the dentist that it would probably be bad if his equipment quit working in the middle of everything. Now I'm glad I didn't say anything, because his fancy little laser machine quit. He did finally get it working again, but by then the Novocain was wearing off so he had to do the brain stick again. I hate that shot...

First I will comment on the pic Opa put up... considering that somebody earlier mentioned that there could be 4,000 wasps in a nest... 4,000 of those? Yup, I think eating them might be an option. Too bad I can't eat yellow jackets. I suppose I could, but... I won't.

seminolewind, if I find a dead what? Guinea Pig (mmm... pig!) or a dead wasp?

Tylt33, definately not fair of the teacher. Just because the teacher didn't feel any emotion, there is no way to take a picture and have everybody feel the same emotion. Even so, if I saw a picture of somebody holding a dead chicken and crying, I would feel sad for the person crying over their pet. Even though I do my own chickens and eat them.

The nest has grown a little in the last 48 hours. The day that I posted, it was 5 inches across, now it's 5 1/2 inches. Interesting seeing the layers that were apparently taken out as the nest grew. I'll try to get a pic of the outside later, though there isn't a lot of space between the house and the lilacs so we'll see. In the meantime, I took this by light of a flashlight. Lots of wasp inside and the light was making them come out.

Personally, I would keep the hive right were is was. To be able to watch it, which I wold find interesting. If they became a problem, stinging people, chewing into the house, then yea I would destroy it.

I know of someone, who found a hornets nest in late fall early winter and decided to take it home. As the car warmed up so did the hornets. About half way home he had to pull over and let the car cool down, then he was able to remove the next. As an old arborist, I had to deal a lot with bees.
