What?!? I know swans can break bones with their wings, but kill a grown man? How the heck could that happen?

I've been thinking about swans for a couple years. They are beautiful, but there are a lot of drawbacks, too. A few weeks ago, I spent a couple hours on the phone with a lady who has swans. She was very helpful - gave me a lot of info and a lot to think about. She said they are definitely not birds you want to let kids around. That's my main hesitation.

Marty - maybe she'll decide she wants something a little "cuddlier."

it was a case of no one knowing what they were doing... In MY opinion.... The caretaker that was killed was tasked to take a kayak out to their breeding island to feed them from what I understand. The man upset the male and the men lost his paddle. the Male swan then managed to keep the man under water and the man drowned.

If I had to be in a boat around a gander or male swan... I'd want a flat bottom boat that they couldn't scare me into flipping and never attend a breeding pair on the water alone. Humans are made for land not water.

psue, your right, one should stick with where they belong. That reminds me of a friend, who when he was trying to decide which branch of the military to be in (he didn't want army) went with Navy instead of Air Force. He figured he could swim better than he could fly.

I cant believe anyone at a zoo would think it wise to be on a kayak to feed swans (or any wild animal)

Army is the easiest branch to get into requiring the lowest test scores, Air Force and marines require the highest scores.

I just got a new battery for my camera.. with the warm days I'll try to get some new ones... But some of the birds look horrid from molt. Can't wait till they get the new feathers and look awesome again.
