Waterproof light clamp?

Hi all,

I have a small coop and am thinking of installing a light clamp to make up for the reduced daylight. I would probably have to have the light shine in from outside the coop, and am wondering what kind of clamp I should use and where I could get one. It's been raining and very windy so I'd need one that is both water resistant and sturdy. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I considered the same thing, then realized that Christmas lights were designed to be used indoor/outdoor. So I use those with an extension cord and a timer and it works great.

That's a really good idea! Are they bright enough though?

Yes, they work great. I use 150 lights in my 12x16 hoop coop and 100 inside my enclosed 5Wx8Lx7T coop.

Here's a couple of pics. You can see one or two of the girls hang out on the roost for a bit when the lights come on at 5am -- must be hitting the snooze alarm...

I got mine at Walmart - 50 LED lights per strand for around $7. I could have just used some spare strands of regular mini lights that we've got laying around, but thought the LEDs would last so much longer. The lights run down the center of the hoop coop, about 12" over the heads of the chickens and they've never pecked at them.

I also bought multi-colored lights to decorate the outside of the coop cabin and hoop coop with.
