This is a post mortem question... as I went out to find one of my younger RIR hens huddled in a corner against the wall *was fine this AM... I could see blood on the wall, so I picked her up, felt her all over, and noted the blood was coming from her mouth.. she seized and died within minutes! What's up with that?

Sorry for your loss. It would be hard to know for sure what happened to your hen, but there are a couple of respiratory diseases such as ILT and avian influenza that can cause bloody mucus from the nose and beak, and be slung around. Did you have any rat poison around the coop? I would watch the others for any symptoms of respiratory illness. Here is some information about those 2 diseases:

Some sneezing, I've been putting duramycin in their water, think it's now time for tylan..

Are you seeing any more of the bloody mucus from the others? ILT is a virus, so the antibiotics won't affect it, but may prevent secondary infection. ILS, if that's what killed your chicken, is a reportable disease in some states and in Canada. Survivors are lifelong carriers, and after thorough cleaning, the coop should be disease-free after 6 weeks. The virus can linger much longer in frozen dropping.
