Watery poop

How is she today? In warmer climates it may be necessary to worm your chickens from time to time. If you can’t get some droppings tested for worms and coccidiosis, I would go ahead and worm her with either Valbazen or SafeGuard Liquid Goat Wormer. Let us know if you need a dosage.

This morning I tried the yogurt. She preferred mashed up pellets mixed with the plain yogurt.

do you drinking rain water could be a problem? I have a waterer but I have also allowed her to drink rain water as we have had lots of rain lately. It is fresh but it is rain wafter.

Rain water in a container is okay, but dirt may still get into it. I have a few black rubber bowls of water in the yard that get rainwater into them, but the dirt gets splashed into them. I would collect some fresh droppings for the fecal float. A good way to collect them is to place them in a crate on a puppy pad overnight, or put something under the roost to catch the droppings once they have gone to sleep at night.

I have two hens and they roost right next to each other so I wouldn’t b able to differentiate the poops. The only way I could separate my sick hen is to lock her in the little coop.
Another backyard poster asked if “her was empty this morning.” Please explain.
Thanks

The crop is the place in the right chest where food and water are stored before moving on to the gizzard and the rest of the digestive tract. It should feel empty and flat in the early morning, and fill up gradually throughout the day. If it does not feel empty in the morning, but feels full and hard or puffy, that means there may be a slowdown of the emptying or a crop disorder.

I’m happy to report that Chickchic seems to be getting better. Her poop is more solid than watery.
The yogurt with mashed pellets and canned tuna seem to be working.
I’ll keep you all posted.
Many thanks.
