Way to horny duck

Even one who's always been with chickens? He's never been kept seperately from our main flock, so that statement confuses me.
A large dog crate with food an water would work with some free time with supervision. Even at night in the coop a crate would work.
He likes her because she is fertile so I wouldn't be concerned unless he is hurting her.
.

Which one? I thought you wanted to keep him from attacking your female. Reason I suggested having him with them but not where he can go after this female?

????? Not sure what your saying. I do know that our females will be given a break from him. One of you mentioned him going after the chickens to, so I was confused by that statement. Oreo ignores our chickens.

Drakes when in horny season will usually want to breed with anything close by chickens dogs cats humans they aren’t too picky. It’s not always a problem when their are plenty of female ducks for him though.

That i didn't know. We had fewer females last year, there was no issue. But there is more of an issue this year.

I'm thinking this is his second season and a full blown hormonal Drake. If you don't plan on breeding Ducks ? You can also get rid of him. Ducks understand Ducks and what might look bad to humans is just natural behaviour. If certain hens are in molt and one isn't and still receptive the Drake will target her. He will take a break once he goes into eclipse.

@Anime2lover is he actually hurting her? Tormenting her ( bullying). Drake sex can be rough to watch but if he’s going after her to hurt her or bully to the point she’s not allowed to be with the rest of the flock then it’s time to separate him or maybe consider rehoming him or her.

It would be a good idea to grab a used dog crate off of Craigslist or something similar and keep him in jail until his hormones calm down. Drake jail is kind of like solitary confinement with some supervised free time breaks.

Like Miss Lydia said, a hormonal drake will take what he can get whether it be another duck, a chicken or their human's foot. They don't care. So even if Oreo ignores the chickens when he's with his flock, he will aggressively mate with them when left alone. And it's not a pretty picture.

Drake jail is your best bet until his hormones subside.

He's already three years old this year. She cqnnot join theus flock because he chases her to much. We have already seperated him and boy have I already seen a difference in all our females. She's able to actually hang out with them more and seems happier. About how long should he be isolated? We're thinking about a week.

you might be able to try it again in about a week or two and just see, sometimes it's enough to change the flock Dynamics enough that the bullied hen will build more confidence...and sometimes after they become more confident they stop being a weak link and stop getting bullied.
but unfortunately you may end up having to keep him locked up until he goes into eclipse molt. That is usually when they calm down.
