We are Building a new chicken house

It sure seems like he knows what he's doing, and even better - doing it! What a keeper! Congrats on the coop...it is going to be a great one. I'm always lurking on the coop section because I am planning to add on and there are lots of good ideas. Keep in mind two runs or more so you can rotate between them or keep some separate...oh, if you want you can ship me the old coop and I'll redo it....just joking. Those jacks look like they could catch a rat or two if they can get to them...nice dogs.

Chicks are in their new home. Put them in last night so they have been in 24 hours. They seem so happy with their new home. More relaxed.

Entry going into the coop.

Haven't got a run done yet but you can see the door that will be cut out.

Earth tub. They sure do like it.

I am trying a piece of plastic on the windows hung with small chain and hooked to a cup hook. This way I can just lift it up and crank the windows open. Hope it works to keep them off of the window sills. Worked great for closing the windows more tonight.

Took this after dark and they are up on the perch some were in the poop board. Last night some of them were up there and that board idea with sweet pdz sure works nice. Wonderful idea for it.

Still have work to do and electricity to run, automatic water to install but it sure is a load off my mind to get them in there. Nest will come later as it will be quite a while before they lay.

I agree that he is a keeper. Thanks for the congrats. It has been a long time coming. I don't think I have room for two runs. The one we are going to build is going to run right up to my rasberries. DH would have a hissy fit if I put too many more ideas and would likes on him right now. I sure would like to ship you the old coop. DH says it is getting destroyed when the new hens start laying so we can take the old hens out of service. Our Jacks tend to keep unwanted wildlife out of our yards. 3 of them even tangled with a badger about a month ago. The female Jack went down a hole after the badger and DH and my son had to dig her out.

Standing ovation!!!!! That...is what I would define as a "Chicken's Paradise!" -- do you do time shares?

Really coming along great! I like the concrete floor. We only have a dirt floor for our chickens. It can get rather dusty at times. We've tried watering it down some to create less dust but with a 30 year old barn with ground that has not seen water for that many years it's hard to do!

Cluckycharms, Thankyou

Red Barn Farms, I know exactly what you mean by dirt floor inside. That is where we have our broilers and it does tend to be Overly dusty. I was afraid to put some water on it as the dirt there just beads up anything. If you find a way to keep the dust down please let me know.
