We have to get rid of our chickens!

You're not alone in trying to change things in Ontario. There's a bit of a movement in Ottawa to allow backyard chickens that picked up some steam last year, but city council are such a stodgy lot that it's an uphill battle. I'm in rural North Grenville so don't have any problems. My rooster and the other two nearby call to each other throughout the day, and chickens free range up and down the road.

I'll keep an eye out for any coverage of this in eastern ontario.

Good luck!

Thanks so much for all the support. I was also on a local radio station this am, the news last night and the local paper this am as well as another local paper coming out this afternoon! We will continue our fight! Rise of the Chickens!!!!

This deal is not about chickens, it's just a nosey, nothing to do but grump neighbor. Some folks have nothing else to do. And as for you not wanting to cause a problem with the neighbor, understand, you're not the problem, it's them. They've cause the problem here. If you happen to cause feel them to feel sense anguish defending yourself and your son, good. They need to be brought into the open anyway. Gosh, I really detest some people. They don't have business for their nose, so it gets into others.

Best of luck with this.

Maybe there's another way around this. I don't know what the laws are in your area pertaining to 'Fair Housing', but I recently took a Fair Housing continuing education class for my license, and we were told by an atty that any animal that is a 'service' animal is allowed in a 'no pets allowed' housing, and public places like eating and work spaces. All the owner needs to have is a doctors note stating the animal or animals are service animals, there is no special training for the animal. The person in question had a huge iguana she took EVERYWHERE because it helped her nerves. I don't know about you, but nothing calms me down after a hard day like a good glass of wine and watching the chickens out in the yard. Get a note from your doctor saying the chickens are service animals helping you to handle the stress from having unreasonable neighbors.

I am curious, did the media talk to your neighbors too?

If you have to get rid of the chickens I would not get rid of the coup. Leave just as it is. I am the passive-aggressive vengeful type and would play rooster crows recordings in that coup every now and then just to get them to call on me again and then hopefully make a fool out of them because there would be nothing to find.

I hope your turd neighbor is reading this so they know what kind of fecal matter they are!
