We made the front page again!

Wow I just read both articles. Does your ex ever have his small town connections in order. Is he dating the health nurse or what. To think the hazard of your daughter having a pet rabbit and chicken got top billing over a home invasion with an older guy getting hit over the head and then stabbed in the back. Small town community politcs at it's strangest.

Again WOW. I have to wonder about comunity priorities...

As far as the media is concerned.... I think just a phone call informing them of the human interest aspect of it, and also the absurdity of the whle thing might get tehm to jump at it.

And I do think that you need to write a letter to the editor, stating that you were never notified of the meeting etc., how ludicrous the whole thing is, and also asking for all rabbit and chicken owners in your community to notify you via email so you can all band together and approach town council. You might want to set up a hotmail or yahoo account specifically for this, so your own personal email will not be bombarded.

As far as the comments, it might just be a part of the comments format--that they erase after one day--after all--what is news one day, is old news the next day.

Good Luck with your killer rabbit and chicken--you know--the ones that are a real threat to the school

Write up a proposal to change the ordinance to allow 3 or 5 hens and 3 bunnies, without permits, as long as their coops are 15 feet from property lines and are kept clean. Then, make it your goal to get the signatures of a lot of local voters. Start with your neighbors, friends, relatives, co-workers, teachers, parents of your children's friends, your church members, your pediatrician and his staff, local veterinarians and their staff, local petshop and feedstore employees and owners, the local scout troups, etc.

Then, recruit some high school students to take the petitions all over town and stand in front of stores and churches, getting signatures. High school students love pets and could be very very heartfelt and persuasive when asking citizens to sign the petition. Plus, since they are the future voters in this town, you should be getting their signatures, as well. Just have a check box on the petition for "current voter" or "future voter". Either way, the elected officials should pay attention.

T-shirts with the picture of your daughter with the Bunny and chicken would be good, too.

Best of luck,

Chel

There are so many illegal impositions used to justify this permit denial it's ridiculous.

It is unconstitutional, not to mention heinous, for a city council to limit a citizen's possessions just because someone else night want it.

If the city can deny ownership on that precedent, then everybody should be denied the right to nice bicycles, ipods, or appliances... after all, a student might covet it and try to steal it.

if you maintain your property legally, then it is other's responsibility not to trespass, not for you to try to keep them out.

I'm not sure who you contacted at the TV stations.... You might try calling the Consumer Advocate at your ABC station (the other networks may have them as well). They like taking on deadbeat contractors, City Hall, Manufacturers, etc...

Another idea is to contact the ACLU and ask them to recommend a local advocate / attorney who would be willing to assist you in defending yourself in this "UnWarrented Attack on your Rights." Most of their attorney advocates will work for free or a small fee to cover expenses.

You can also call the closest University Law School, ask the Dean's Office who the instructors are that teach classes relating to Civic Government / Municiple Operations ( I forget the exact name of the subject), and contact the instructor and ask if he/she has any Upperclassmen who would be able to assist you in this matter. Most instructors are familiar with handling these kinds of requests, and keep a list of each students' areas of interest, and can usually give you a hand. [I've been successful in getting students to help my family on a couple of issues... they get experience and usually class credit as well.)

Hope This Helps!

Kathy
