We Quit Cigarettes

Nearly everyone has a few skipped beats or early/extra beats. It's more unusual not to have them. It's only when they start to bother you (or become too constant) that they're a problem. Three in a minute is more than usual, but it could actually be down to stress. That doesn't make it less of an issue, but it does mean you may be able to do something to make it better.

People get addicted to all sorts of things, including unhealthy entertainment (including the "news"). These things create pathways in your brain--a metaphor for an actual detectable physical effect. You can change those pathways. I used to struggle desperately with depression. Still do sometimes. I just can't watch that kind of stuff. I watch chickens and geese and ducks and cows. 🥰

When I start feeling depressed it's as if I become my own enemy. I know I should turn away from it, but somehow I'm not willing. I don't understand that, but I have to turn away--distract myself somehow--go for a walk, paint something, put on some music and dance... Otherwise the darkness gets so bad. You can't let it get to that point. It's too painful and there's really no point. Anyway it's not real most of the time. It's just chemicals in your brain telling you lies. Some of us have to work hard to keep our thoughts positive, but it's well worth doing... and it well may help your arrhythmias.

Anyway try the meditation if you're willing. Smiling Mind is the name of the free app I found. It's very simple (not necessarily easy but not excruciating). Really the whole point is to get control of noticing and being where you are rather than your mind wandering off in a million different streams. Focus. 🙂

:goodpost:

I had to do the mindfulness/awareness thing last night. I didn’t meditate or anything but I noticed I was stuck on this one train of thought and just would not get off it, I was determined to see it through/finish the “story” in my mind, and at first, even though I was aware I still refused to give it up, so then I finally had to force myself to stop thinking about it and I think I might have even prayed or something, can’t remember for sure. I know that’s not for everybody but I was like a dog with a bone and wouldn’t let go for anything and it was a bad train of thought so I had to do something. So the awareness stuff definitely does work.

So today’s my day. I planned on allowing myself one or two cigarettes today on my quit day, but I’m not so sure. Why drag it out a whole (almost) day and still be back at square 1 tomorrow when I could be on day 2?

I’ve been trying to figure out what I wanted to do for myself and I decided I’d get some geese. NO ONE TOLD ME THEY COST AN ARM AND A LEG!!!! Whattttttttttttt???????

do they ship better or something? How am I supposed to spend HUNDREDS of bucks on two geese and hope they both make it?!? Should I hatch? How hard is it to get eggs? am I going to fall in love with geese? Are they fine without a pond? I feel like I see a ton of barnyard geese with just a bucket to dip their bill.

hope you feel better today @Kiki
I ordered mine from the local Runnings. American Buff. Three geese and a gander. $15 for the gander but the geese were $35 each. Try one of your local stores rather than having them shipped. They don't need a pond. We have one but they haven't found it yet. I'm getting an egg every other day from each of the girls now, but so far none fertile. I think our days are still too short for the gander. I've seen him climb on a couple times, but Holderread says they need a 12 hour day to be fertile. When it warms up some I'll put out their kiddie pool. Even a few inches of water helps the fertility, or so I'm reading. They're heavy birds, and they're considered a medium-sized breed.

My geese are among the few birds I would bring along were I to move (which we're seriously discussing because it's SO COLD.) Them and the Sweetgrass Turkeys. And my nice cows (I'm selling the mean-girl irregardless) and their handsome consort. And the doggies of course. None of my birds are pets, but American Buff are supposed to be the most family friendly, and I read on here of people whose geese ARE pets and very affectionate (except maybe during breeding season).

Louisiana's warm. Except for right now it 55ish feels nice out

Thanks for the support, y’all.

I’m currently falling down a rabbit hole. I’ve moved past geese (they’re not available until too late for a motivator) and I’m trying to find bottle baby cows or sheep.

my husbands going to kill me.

......BUT IT WONT BE THE CIGARETTES THAT DO IT!

There are complex "equations" that go into determining speed limits. They take into account all sorts of things, including road surface, curve radius, traffic levels, even the "bank" of the road. There are college and masters level programs that teach all you need to know about "Transportation Planning" and entire government agencies - from local to federal levels, that deal with them, as well.
And all that can be replaced by listening to your mother when she tells you, "Slow down. I want you to get home, safely."

And don't be silly ... we're ALL a bit crazy, here!

Huh, this is very interesting!! Thank you!! I never thought of this.

And yeah, she says to slow down all the time.

But then again she says it even when I am going the speed limit. Which I usually am because I don’t speed or not as much with them in the car.

And :lau true!!!

This is not funny.
It's just stupid.

Yeah I know. I actually don’t speed on the ramps. At least not intentionally. It’s just occasionally when I’m turning or on the ramps, I don’t slow down quite enough. But I’m not going like 80 on them or anything or even 50. I do slow way down. I’ve just occasionally not slowed down enough or not fast enough so I can feel the car pulling a bit on the super tight curves and in that case I brake more immediately. It’s usually an accident. I actually don’t like going fast on the ramps. That’s the one thing that still scares me even though I do a lot of other dumb things. The ramps aren’t one of them. Lots of people have died around here and a few years ago two girls were speeding on one and they crossed both sides of the highway and flipped over on the other side and died. So I do slow way down.

They need to take it away.

:ep :th

And in a crossover SUV at that. Some people dont understand it can all change in an instant. Those 4 little patches of rubber is the only thing connecting them to the road. What if there's a defect in a tire? What if you roll over something too small to notice? One blowout or breaking loose and that's a wrap. Comprehend this. You're not in control of all things. You think you are but you're not.

Yeah, I’m starting to realize this. But I actually don’t speed on the ramps. At least not intentionally. It’s just we have some super curvy ones so sometimes it pulls or whatever is more what I meant but when that happens I slow down more. But we have this one long one that’s super tight curves and downhill the entire time. So even if you’re going pretty slow, you can feel it and need to slow down more. I go super slow on that one. But sometimes I don’t slow down enough before I get to the first curve.

Kiki don't do just 1... It's never just 1

Your body is doing it's last effort to try to get you its fix, but if you hold off your body will want it less.

Stopping and starting again then trying to stop again... Is crazy hard
I know and I don't want to make that mistake.

:lau It's really warm here today. Sixty-eight! A couple-three days ago we woke up to -17, though, so there's that. And no guarantee it won't happen again.
