3Okay so here it goes:
I just found my Mottled Houdan in the condition described below at about 5:15pm today.
I want to know if there is any at home remedies I can provide. I have looked around and it looks like I should purchase some VetRx which I won't be able to get around here most likely I will have to order it. So I am wondering if that is all I should purchase and what I can do. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
1) What type of bird , age and weight.
Mottled Houdan, 13 to 15 weeks. 3 or 4 lbs maybe?
2) What is the behavior, exactly.
Weezing and Sneezing. Mouth breathing. Sounds very congested. Listened closley to see if I could hear it in the lungs but it appears to be upper respitory.
3) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.
None
4) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.
I cleaned the coop yesterday and it was dusty. However they were not in it and I put a fan in to blow out the dust before allowing them back in.
They have been free rangeing the past couple days for the first time, all day. I had only been letting them out for a few hours a day prior to this weekend.
5) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.
I have seperated him from the rest of my flock. He did not appear to be eating or drinking in the smaller cage he is now, but I know he also was not happy about being seperated either which could be contributing to that right now.
6) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.
Poop I have not been able to get a look at yet as I have literally just seperated him an hour ago.
7) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?
I have administered no treatment yet. Just quarantine.
8 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?
No vets available in my area. Self treat.
9) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.
No pictures that would help I don't think.
10) Describe the housing/bedding in use:
He is in a large coop with 20 other chickens ranging around the same age. I use pine shavings. And they are allowed out during the day. I only allow them outside of the outdoor run when I am here all day, otherwise they are in an outdoor run that has access to the coop all day.
