Weird air cells on fresh eggs

That's why I think it can't really be super uncommon, because we know battery eggs don't sit on their sides any longer than it takes to ride the conveyor to the racks. And I collect my own eggs every single day by 4pm, so they can't have sat more than 10 hours. It's a rare batch that I don't get one with a side cell. It irritates me because half the time I'm boiling it's for deviled eggs.

Yeah, I don't know what could be the cause but the most likely deduction would be something going on during the membraning process....Well, it's not a total loss...at least you can use half the egg.

Agrees...was thinking just that earlier. Someone's laying loose membranes and they stay on their sides long enough to stick there maybe.<shrugs>

Why that one stayed loose from yesterday is beyond me. It must have gotten moved around more than the others. We'll see if it 'sticks' after staying upright in the bator for a few days, looks like it will survive the shifting.

Nests are 14x14x16 and well bedded with straw in a bowl. I have been gathering eggs 3-4 times a day for the last week or so and laying them on their sides until I put them in the carton, which can be anywhere from a couple hours to a day or two.

Appreciate all the conversation here, Thanks!

I've seen it before in shipped eggs where the air cell was perfectly fine, just on the side of the egg. I thought shipping did that, but now I wonder.

I've always been able to hatch those, by the way. The air cell usually grows 'up' towards the fat end as incubation goes on, and I just make sure to put the air cell facing up when I do lockdown.

Just to note, I have an Incuview so eggs are laying down throughout the incubation.

Except for that detached one, it's sitting up right in a large bottle cap.
Circles on other eggs are for 'turning' observation.

So got 4 CCL eggs today.
One has a detached air cell, and it's got multiple small 'bubbles', instead of one large one.
The one in the cap in the incubator now has multiple small 'bubbles' (tho bigger bubbles than the fresh egg) instead of he one cell I saw when setting it... and is still detached.
SMH.
It only been 2 days...how long does it take a detached cell to reattach?
Do the multiple small 'bubbles' mean anything?

Often they won't reattach until the chorio-allantoic membrane is developed enough to physically 'pin' it back in place. Usually by day ten or eleven.
Thanks....how does not turning the egg for that long affect possible 'sticking' of embryo?
Any thought on the bubbles?
I probably should get a pic, maybe will try tomorrow.
