Weird behavior with chicks?

When I take my 3 1/2 week old chicks out to play some of them will lay down on there side with one wing out a little bit. Is this normal? Why do they do this? Are they hot or are they just enjoying the sunshine? They all seem fine I just don't know why they do it.

My silkies do the same. I think that how they starting doing dust bathing.

Perfectly normal!

They do it to get sunlight it is often accompanied by dust bathing.

I have a Delaware hen with one chick.....What a treat to watch it copy mom.
first laying in it's side with it's head stretched out..now doing the dust bath.....

My adult chickens lay on their sides sprawled out like they are dead.

They are just enjoying the lovelies.

my chicks lay out for the sun and then they roll and then get a dusk bath yes its fine

Yep, learning how! The first time dh saw one do that he was like "come here, something's WRONG!!!" nope, just dust bathing.

but it sure looks funny with the little ones!

Mine do it too. It is so exciting to see them have such a good time whie they are exploring.
