Weird bump on my hen's comb, she's getting worse by day! EMERGENCY HELP NEEDED! PLEASE!

With all the travel that takes place these days... territories are expanding. :barnie

That temp doesn't sound as high to me as it SEEMS...

According to at least one source...
https://www.mypetchicken.com/backya...is-regular-chicken-body-temperature-H318.aspx

Q: What is regular chicken body temperature?

A:
Chickens have a much higher body temperature than humans do. Normal chicken body temperature ranges from about 105 to 107 degrees Fahrenheit. Just as with humans, it can vary a little depending on time of day, wither the chicken is stressed, or whether she's eaten recently.

:fl

I measured her temp an hour ago, it showed 108.7!!!!!! She has also been a bit more alert :)))))) I have hope!!!

Well, I found Penicillin an a Tractor Supply store (an hour away from us, but still grateful they had it!!) This may be a very stupid comment, but I don't know how many Penicillin types there are. So I'm attaching a picture. Is this the type that's ok for chickens? Does anyone know please the dose I need to inject? Do I inject it right away (I gave her Tylan 50 again at 7am this morning, right now it's 4:40pm)

Yes, that is the correct type. Dose is 1/4 to 1/2 cc daily in the breast muscle. Alternate sides of the breast. Make sure you shake the bottle up really well before drawing out, penicillin has large particles that settle out. Here is very detailed instructions on giving injections, scroll down a little over half way to "Give Injection" and following that is "Treat with Penicillin Injection". https://sites.google.com/a/poultryp...oultry-podiatry#chickens_penicillin_injection

Hello dear chicken community! :hugsI thought I'd post an update for the past few hours.
I've been keeping the room where she stays warm - between 75-80 F, cleaning her vent every so often, which helped her cool down a bit.
At about 4 pm I decided to give her a cool bath, that's when I saw that her legs still work, and she flapped her both wings too! That was one joyous moment!!!!! Almost right after the bath her body temp went from the usual - over 110 down to 109.3! I dried her up well and put her on her towel to rest.
Around 6 pm I measured her temp again, it surprisingly showed 106.8 F. I got suspicious and remeasured it five minutes later. It showed 108.3 F. Then I administered the Penicillin shot and gave her lots of electrolytes +vitamins +probiotic water and high protein meal/mash (17% crude protein) we have at home handy for such cases (it's called Lafeber's Nutri-Start Hand feeding formula for Baby Birds and is available on Amazon).
Her bump looks a bit more swollen than other days, probably because of the cut:hmm:( But her rattling and sneezing/discharge completely stopped. (The humidifier with Oxine has been running all these days on low, so not too much cold mist would land on her face.) No Aspirin tonight, because fever subsided, it seems. She is now resting for the night.

One thing I noticed these past few days is that the more hours go by - from when she got her antibiotic dose - the weaker she would get. So, I guess Tylan 50 did work somewhat at least. Hopefully Penicillin will really make difference. Next couple of days will show.
Thank you all again for hearing our cry for help today and such amazing responses! Have a good night! I'll post more tomorrow :)

P.S. (I also made a video today, but will add it here tomorrow as well.)

Thank you so much for the fast reply and for the link, Coach 723! I so appreciate it:frow!!! Followed the instructions carefully and it all went really well!
Do I need to wait until 6 pm tomorrow to inject her the second time - 12 hours in between? I read some time ago that the effect of some antibiotics will run out in 8 hours after administering... 24hrs seem like a long time...so I thought I'd ask if Penicillin can be administered twice a day - say 8 hrs between dosing?

So, how is she???? We're all pulling for her!

Hello Evelyn's Mom! Thank you SO MUCH for your encouragement and for asking about my little bird!
Please forgive me silence these couple of days. I am running between Amber, my old cat who has an inoperable tumor in her bladder, but is otherwise eating well and doing fine and my other chicken with a heart failure - Daisy (who stopped walking, because her right leg isn't working anymore - probably age. Otherwise she has been doing good, eating her food well, but especially worms and canned corn like crazy. I just have to drain her abdomen every week.) But today is a very cool day in Colorado, so "running" between them seems easier a bit.

Amber seems about the same, she is still struggling with all the issues. Her fever is still high. I cool her body down several times with wet towel and once at night (about 3am). It brings temp. down to 108.3 - 107.7. She still acts like she is drunk, can't walk/stand. Her eyes are not alert. She closes them as if she is about to faint. I keep feeding her and giving her water with electrolytes/vitamins/probiotics.

Today (- DAY 8) I started giving her an Epsom salt flush. I am trying everything I can think of (very cautiously of course). Epsom salt - because a thought crept in that maybe she had led poisoning. Penicillin shots every day - 1/4cc. Not sure if antibiotics are helping.

Another thought crept in today in that she might have a tick or something else nasty sucking her blood. So, I sat down and inspected every inch of her body. NOTHING!

Her comb has gotten a bit more swollen (pic below). I have no idea what else I need to do. Just hoping that whatever it is she'll get better. As always your input is more welcome!

I hope you do see some improvement in her soon. Her eyelids just look so washed out and her eyes are so tired. Does she eat for you or have you tried tube feeding her?

Someone early mentioned the possibility of Mareks. Could that be a possibility with your other chicken who does not use her leg? If you should lose this one, do you have any plans to get a necropsy by your state vet to look for Mareks and anything else? You ate oviously vety devoted to helping her, so I do hope that she starts improving soon. Here is a link for most state vets and poultry labs if you need it:
