Weird Egg Wrapped in Membrane (PICS)

Yeah, not really membrane, but membrane-like in the way it wrapped around the egg. It's tough like some tissue from her reproductive tract. I hope it's not a sign of something really serious. No more odd eggs have been laid, so guess there is nothing I can do but watch.

I had a couple of eggs like that from an (maybe more than one?) Easter Egger earlier this year. Nothing like it has happened since, and none of them fell ill.

Tara, that makes me feel not so scared for whoever laid that thing. I'll update if I see this happen again. I hope if it does, I catch the girl who did it.

That's quite odd..

Maybe the hen was trying to lay one of those double shelled eggs (egg inside an egg?) and only got the membrane started on the second shell? I don't know... I do hope nothing serious happens. You have enough on your plate already

Thank you, Brad. That could be what happened, or something similar. Nothing out of the ordinary today. Guess time will tell.

One of my girls laid an egg like that today. I wondered if the shell had begun to harden and she put another layer of soft eggshell over it on its way down the channel. It was weird, washed right off. No blood. I'll see if I get others like it.
