went out today and was collecting the eggs and in one nest box there was what looked like an egg that didnt harden and there was no yolk with it. it was flat like paper. What could this be?

Sounds like a shell-less egg that got trampled flat. It happens sometimes. Once in a while is an anomaly but if it starts to happen regularly, you might need to increase calcium by providing an oyster shell-type supplement.

I think that this was a shell-less egg, covered only by the under membrane which broke and the chooks will then eat the contents. Do make sure they have enough calcium and vitamin D.

airmechreed.....a 'fart egg' or 'fairy egg' ( if the kids are around) is a tiny little hard shelled egg containing only albumen which is the first egg that is laid by a pullet or a hen that has been off lay.
