I found out today that one of my Polish chicks got some weird stuff grew out from her nails/feet.
At first, I thought it was just dirt stuck in the feet, I tried to wash it off but it didn’t come off, and the chick cried as if it hurt her when I tried to pick it off.
Does anyone have any ideas what it is and how to treat it?
Thanks in advance.

Its hardened on poop from the brooder.
You must change the bedding more often.
More wood shavings.
Dont try to pull it off. You could injure the chicks legs feet ot toes
In my experience just getting the chicks in a situation where they can in gauge on scratching and digging in the grass or dirt removes the poop buildup quickly and naturally
Can you get them outside in a ground pen of some sort. (Not sure where you are or what temperatures are there)

Here’s what I do for my King quail if this happens… food and poo sometimes gets stuck to the nails, so I place them into some shallow, warm water. I let them walk around in it (supervised always) to loosen it all up. It usually comes off fairly easily. The rest I can gently scrape off. Don’t worry. It’s common. 😊 They like to fling the food and water… AND walk through it… and the poo.
